The sound on the right driver is softer. The vocals and details are much louder on the left side. So right now it seems like everything is not balance or symmetrical. I tested with my iem and it is fine.... and i have already make an appointment with an ent specialist after christmas just to make sure that it is not my hearing problem.

Did you confirm it's not a connectivity problem (e.g. switch the cable leads at the cup connectors)?

If it's an imbalance issue I'd strongly suggest you contact Headdirect and just holler at them to replace these with a pair that has more proper channel balance. Seriously it's not worth the hassle you are planning to go through just to brute-force trying to fix a defective unit, that has warranty for free replacement anyway.

Doesn't each connector have a left and right side label? I will try it ltr as I just left my apartment lol
Thank you for helping me out

Yes, but a simple cable channel connector swap test will confirm/deny if the issue stems from something upstream from the headphones.

Use them. That's how you burn them in.

Psychological burn in is psychological.

Sigh, two HE-400s, same from the first moment I used them. This expectation bias is getting out of hand.

Although I have listened to it more than 50 times, the Alice in Chains Unplugged is one of my favorite recordings on the he400. It seems that the recording is just tailored to bring out the best and showcase the talents of the he400. You've got the wonderful separation of instruments on stage that sounds so natural and lifelike. And then there's that hard hitting bass dripping with impact.

So many live recording are poorly recorded and mastered. Why can't they all be more like this? :frowning2:

I just happened to pick this album up a day ago lol. Amazing live performance.

Of all the solutions this is the only 1 that did not cross my mind and yet to be tested.

Another very simple test that has fixed a few issues like this...pull around the edge of each pad. See if the tightness is the same or if maybe you have a tab that didn't pop in. It's easy to miss getting that last tab in properly. I use a small precision flat screwdriver but you must be careful with sharp instruments near the driver.

Worth a shot anyway.

Managed to get the plastic rings on.
Basically you have to use the ring as a template and cut some extra mesh out where the slots are.
If anyone wants to give it a go, its this..

It's only $5 in the US, we get ripped off down here.

Bet that would look interesting with the DT990 white pads!

Good morning to everyone,

I'd like to buy a headphone for movies (I usually watch blu-ray and/or mkv with Powerdvd or MPC-HC).

Budget is not a problem, but I'd like to buy a very high quality headphone. I read many reviews and I think that HE-400 could be a great choice for this, and I'd like to have some opinions. I watch everything by PC so I will buy a Soundblaster Zxr when it arrives and I think it's good for the HE-400, right?

Is it a good choice for me?

Thank you very much

Francesco

I just tested it .... and it is as you suspected, it is the cable!! When i put the left cable on the right driver it is louder on the right......This is totally unexpected, so what do i do know that i have identified the source of the problem?

I prefer the HD650 for movies. Movies tend to recess the mids, so voices are harder to hear. The HD650 offsets that, while maintaining good bass for the action stuff.

The HE400 is a stellar movie headphone though. Just like the 650's mids for the reasons I stated.

I don't know about recessing them, but they are softly mixed into the sound.  Movies have very high dynamic range, and voices are not the peak part of their mix.  I'd get the cops called on me if I turned my speakers up until the voices were at a good level when I watch movies.
