Voohoo I heaven't listened to classical for ages, only Jazz and some pop. HE-4 is the better all-rounder, more detailed and more punchy better bass for Electronica but both work really good with Jazz. Really hard to say what would be better, my opinion is both do very well but with different approaches.

I've been listening almost exclusively to classical lately and that is just so great with the HE-500, especially anything vocal based

Hey guys I'm wanting to upgrade from my ath-ad700(love the sound stage) headphones which are used for music and games.
I've narrowed it down to the dt880 600ohm and hifiman he-300. Could someone compare these two?
I will pair one of them with a little dot mk III or matrix m stage or schitt asgard. (something in the $250 price range)
What do you guys recommend?
Thanks!!

From what I read the 880s are bright headphones while HE-300s aren't. So two very different sound signatures.

Where are you guys buying the HE-300? Headdirect, Headphones.com or other? Any advantages (or disadvantages) to buying one place versus another?

.Sup: Noticed you have both the HE-4 and HE-300. Which do you recommend? I listen to exclusively rock: From Indie to Metal. Would either one of these excel for that genre? I've already got the Grado 325's which have the detail and the highs. I was thinking the HE-300 would be a more balanced compliment. I've been a little spooked about the "quackiness" in the vocals comments on the HE-300's though. Therefore, I've brought the HE-4's back into consideration.

I would recommend HE-4. Its the most versatile Headphone I have owned. HE-300 is good with Jazz, probably classical too, haven't tried. But HE-4 is the one to get for Electronica, rock and also Jazz if you like slightly more treble and good bass. Grados are probably similar to HE-4 so if you wan't something differen't then HE-300 are the obvious choice. Its hard to recommend if you will like them because I don't listen to rock much. But if I had to pick one headphones for rock it would be the HE-4.

Thanks for info. You've summed up my dilemma: I want the best of the two (which is probably the HE-4) but I also want something to compliment my Grado 325's, not replace them. (Which sounds like the HE-300 are the best choice) Perhaps the HE-4 is the way to go. I love the detail of the Grados. The guitars are amazing but the bass is often lacking. Sounds like the HE-4 have the detail and also deliver the bass.
exactly what you said. I don't know how bassy Grados are and if HE-4 will be bassy enough for you but they definitely have plenty of bass for my taste and a good, well defined bass.

.Sup, earlier in this thread I read that the HE300 is more of a relaxing laid back type headphone in terms of signature. Is that the case for you or is it different?
