I'm gonna watch this thread too, but I need to overcome some strong biases/opinions before I spend >$1,000 on a DAP (edit: I should say "again:; I have spent thou$ands on A&K DAPs in the past). My sporadic (over, my goodness, 15+ years) time at head-fi has taught me I am susceptible to such re-education, hahaha.

Non-user-replaceable (well, for non-skilled users at least) battery remains a big hurdle for me. Likewise, Android's battery-chewing presence is a deterrent for me as well. However, all this R2R love lately has me paying attention.

Well I think this explains what happened to your DAP well enough.

I like it!

But......, wish it used a different volume dial. That thing is so hard to turn especially with the case on. Terrible design.

It never got wet. Because it never left the house! The battery on the 2nd unit was faulty like the first.
I never said the battery leaked HIBY batteries are known to swell up and rip the dap apart
Can you show the pictures of mold growing on stainless steel.
Mold CANT grow on stainless Steel.
Or the damaged screen that never existed...
1500 for 2 months use of ANOTHER faulty HIBY.
In your defence, that doesn't look like your typical water damage, although it's difficult to tell based on the photo. Of course, there are many ways a hand-held device can get wet without it leaving the house ...

Last post on this but there's washing machines, dropping it into something like a toilet/sink or even having it in dripping sweat while working out. It may even have failed a bit later due to that or inadvertently been made wet by another member in the household and he's unaware. Still not on Hiby and his campaign against Hiby is uncalled for with that sort of obvious evidence.

On Topic.
I understand why they stayed with the current physical format to keep prices in check and allow it to market more quickly. I really like my R6 2020 but I'd much prefer the outputs on top for a portable, or at least in proximity (same physical 1/2) to the volume control. When pocketed, It's either resting on the cable so you can change volume or you can't change volume. Player has no complaints from me outside of that. :relaxed:

That said, this unit has peaked my interest, dammit:angry:. I don't use these enough to warrant the rs6 but when I do use a DAP, it matters to me and I'm fussy about getting a sound I can appreciate. I soooo appreciate that they kept this r6 size. It's embarrassing when a high end DAP drops my shorts. Bad enough the DAP sticks out but that should be all the equipment available for viewing.

I don't like the volume dial above; in addition, the (TPU / leather) case does not fit correctly, hence the control via dial is a little bit sleazy....
Another point is the sw control of volume, sometimes you make a wipe by a mistake and the volume is exploding to the highest level.....
...but in summary, the r6 new is a perfect device for me :)

Well I think this explains what happened to your DAP well enough.

If I dropped my unit in a cereal bowl (or something like that) I would "man up". I might ask for a break on repairing the unit, but sure looks like user error to me. I was skeptical when this person posted something about this issue on the R5 thread (now deleted it seems) and am more so now.
