Yes these were files from an external. I restarted the device and it fixed it. Probably an SD mounting issue? The new tracks that I loaded were indexed in the app but none of them played, including the previously loaded tracks.

Tracks included MP3, ALAC, FLAC.
I think, you must have indexed them back when the card was reading properly, and then something happened that made the card temporarily unreadable. Try cleaning the contacts on your card.

Thanks. A restart of the device sorted the issue. I'll see what happens when I next add music (really rare these days with all the streaming services available.)

Still hoping that Hiby will enable European characters. This will be great for me as much of my library is classical music and having random chinese characters appears in a French or German title is really weird.

Hiby R6 Gen III + Moondrop Blessing2 Dusk

I bought an R6 III last week and I am LOVING the sound quality, this thing sounds amazing! There are other issues that I am less pleased with (not being able to install/use 3 radio station apps that I use regularly, for one) but I am talking to Hiby so hopefully they'll sort them out for me.

I'm sure I'll have lots more to say about the R6 III but to start with, can anyone recommend a system-wide EQ app? I tried the one I use on my 'phone and was surprised to find that it worked, given that the OS is modified to overcome SRC limitations, but found that it, and another I tried, re-encodes everything to 44.1KHz so that's no good. (I know there are EQs in most media players, but not in radio apps, video players, YouTube, etc. - I'm old and need EQ.)

My other initial question is to ask if anyone has played with the 3 stage gain control? Obviously its purpose is to enable harder to drive headphones/IEMs but I wonder which of the three settings is 'straight through', meaning the other two are either attenuated or boosted and presumably lesser quality?

I tried it of course and felt as if the high gain setting gave me very slightly tighter bass but it was probably my imagination. I also wondered if the high setting might use more power (allowing for the volume being much lower) but the device didn't seem to get any warmer and I haven't yet checked to see if it drains the battery more quickly. I know I'm being overly fussy, I'm just tweaking this lovely device to get the very best out of it. :)

I use Poweramp Equalizer, the paid version. I think it was $5 or something. It's been awhile. It allows complete customization of the band frequency and number of bands. It has MANY features and you can customize almost everything about it. This FAQ helped me alot - https://forum.powerampapp.com/forum/31-using-the-equalizer-qa/

Thanks for the suggestion but I installed it, rebooted the R6, opened UAPP and played something, but nothing happened. The sliders and balance control do nothing (volume works) and 'known players' in settings didn't see it. Same with Amazon Music and the Hiby player. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure.
Reboot the device after installing if you haven't already.
I've only had to tweak settings to get it to work with the Poweramp Player (ironic). Go into Settings, Equalizer, and check DVC settings to make sure it's enabled, maybe. I have it on and also have "Enable DVC for Bluetooth" on.
Also I think I had to play music in the apps for a few min for Poweramp EQ to populate Known Players the first time around.
If none of this works check the FAQ's in the link I posted.

I wouldn't expect Poweramp EQ to work with UAPP's hi-res driver, as it bypasses Android audio. It might work if you switch UAPP to the normal Android driver, but then UAPP already has EQ functions built in...

It does, and you can change the encoding for individual songs' tags after bringing up its info (a line like "tag info not correct?" appears and you can choose encoding from there)

But best thing to do would be to have tags in unicode so nobody would be left guessing what the codepage for the text is.

what sound tone R6 III ? v shaped,W shaped or more neutral? more warmer or brighter side?
I think most people here agree that DAPs don't "sound", at least this one not much. But if you are after a particular sound you can always use the MSEB tuning board onboard HiBy R DAPs to achieve it. Warm vs cool e.g. is just one slider's worth of work.
