what sound tone R6 III ? v shaped,W shaped or more neutral? more warmer or brighter side?
I would say neutral with hint of warmth adding some musicality, at least when comparing to some FIIO gear using THX amp module.

It's still on the neutral side with great resolving character for the price.

I think most people here agree that DAPs don't "sound", at least this one not much. But if you are after a particular sound you can always use the MSEB tuning board onboard HiBy R DAPs to achieve it. Warm vs cool e.g. is just one slider's worth of work.
thanks for answer. what is it MSEB ? it is only has hiby dap?

MSEB is a method of equalization that uses adjectives rather than numbers, therefore being a closer way of understanding EQ...... as it uses language which is closer to human experience, as opposed to just numbers. It is one of HiBy's exclusive, unique, and highly effective EQ methods. Best thing since sliced bread.

You may read about it as it first appeared here
https://headfonics.com/hiby-music-r6-review/2/

where it was originally called the "magesound 8-ball". As reproduced below--

MAGESOUND 8-BALL

You also have one other major new feature which is not currently available on the HiBy Music app on other platforms and that is the Magesound 8-Ball plug-in. I was first shown this last month at the show and I believe the version you will get will look a little more refined but essentially do the same thing and perform in the same manner.

BEYOND AN EQUALIZER

This is an awesome app if you pardon my lack of technical phrasing. Rather than simply offer an equalizer and a series of presets (which it also does in another setting) the 8-ball targets certain things we audiophiles tend to think about when we describe the sound and what we want or do not want.

A WISH LIST

The list is like a wish list of controls I wish I had years ago like affecting the overall tonal temperature from cool to warm, flattening out the bass texture and note thickness, recessing the vocals, pushing them forward, and control of sibilance and injection of air. This is some promising DSP.

Every category is controlled by a measured slider that can flip between fine-tuning and ‘go extreme’ so you always feel like you have a level of control on just how far you want to take it.

Not sure tbh, only tried BTR7, K5 and K9 Pro and found all of them on the more neutral analytical side compared to most Hiby, Topping and S.M.S.L that have more musicality for me. Even if all of them was based on ESS chips.

Does MSEB work with 3rd party streaming apps, besides the native Hiby app - such as Qobuz, tidal etc?

So, I'm considering purchasing this DAP however I have one concern - Due to the size of the device, does anyone have any issue with this in their pocket with a 4.4mm straight plug connected?

I have been looking round for a 4.4mm male to 4.4mm female L shape adaptor which would remedy this potential issue and make the DAP easier and more comfortable to carry around in the pocket of my jeans, but I just kind find any such adaptor anywhere, at all. Does anyone know anywhere that sells such an adaptor? It seems odd that I am unable to find one as it seems like a convenient adaptor for portable use.

I've put this in my pocket (without the case) and it seems to work just fine. Just don't sit down. The plug comes straight out of the bottom so I'm not sure what you'd want an L bend adapter for. I guess if you turn in on it's side in your pocket you might have issues.

so the plug isn't protruding straight up out of my pocket. if its going horizontal - adjacent to the bottom of the DAP (I would have the DAP upside down ofc in pocket) then only the soft pliable cable will be coming out of the pocket.

Ah, I see. That would be handy but I don't think I've seen an L adapter for 4.4mm, but probably could find one for 3.5mm since its a more common size. I tend to use whatever's most convenient, at least when mobile.

Arrived today - I’m very happy with it. Sounds better than I expected. Far superior to any of my dongles.

Happy with the blue too. Qobuz also works flawlessly, including downloading for offline use to the sd card - which is the main way I’ll be using it.

Update: the straight 4.4mm plug isn’t a problem when the player is in my pocket!
