i've reading about these rumors, they started for 2 years ago but tidal still goes on.
nevertheless, if it goes down, people will probably move to spotify, google music, apple. but it will leave a hole in the hifi streaming services. i still have my digital downloads and ripped to flac cds but a personal collection doesn't and couldn't match the huge library the streaming services offer.

Yes... and unless you're referring to some other feature of the R6, it would seem to me that DTC is the R6's unique selling point?

I'm referring to DTA and ALL the other features. In fact Tidal has virtually nothing to do with my deciding process to purchase or not R6.
Many folks would own this player and perhaps even never use Tidal.

Good for you.

However, IMO, the other- non DTA- features of the R6 seem like features you'd get with almost any other DAP if all one did was listen to music files procured from sources other than the various streaming services?

For me, DTA is the only reason I got the R6.

I think so? It looks all clear and plasticky as it peels off.
