I'm looking into the disappearing SD card on PC problem some of you are experiencing. I start by going to "Wireless Update" and updating the firmware to the Feb 8 release (which incidentally includes MSEB, formerly known as the MageSound 8-ball). Has anyone else updated?

I am having that problem too. It will appear and disappear, usually half way thru the copy process.
And if I were to use Network to copy the content, the content will not appear when I try to connect via USB.

I take the view that a lot of these DAP are really good on hardware, but bad on software. Maybe they should open source the software.

Backed the r6 last week and still not got a tracking number for it. Can I assume that nothings going to happen now until after chinese new year? That's fine, it's the not knowing when it will ship that kills (and given that it's not stated to start shipping until march that's fine, just curious).

Last week would be too late for us to receive the order list update from igg and act on it before chinese new year. Thank you for your patience

For SD card formatting, do you guys format it as "Portable" or "Internal", which is better ? and Why ?
Portable would be my choice, unless you intend to use the same uSD card with the player and never remove it. Internal treats the card as part of the system and puts system stuff onto the card

...unless the card also disappears halfway through use of the player, e.g. playing music on the R6.

Then that's a hardware issue with the card reader on this particular R6 and I would recommend you get in touch with me on private messages ASAP to sort out the problem.

Ah I think I can answer this. I've always had this problem on my girlfriend's mac. Mac doesn't play well with android. it's not like Windows where you can just plug it in, click and drag. Install Android File Transfer on your Mac. When you plug in the R6, it'll ask something about confirming the connection or allowing the connection. Sometimes you might have to plug and unplug and allow the connection again. Eventually your sd card and built in storage will show up. From there you should be able to click and drag.

This is not the R6's problem. It's an android issue. I've been dealing with this since android 1.5 (cupcake).
Thanks - will try that later...
For now, I used my Win10 laptop and it just worked!

I updated today (just got my R6 today), and started copying (on a Win10 laptop)...
Several times the file explorer window for R6 "closed" mid-copy, but the copy continued to completion.

Joe - another question regarding microSD card format:
I formatted as portable. When connecting to Win10 laptop - it shows as format (under properties) as "hierarchical" or something like that... also, when copying files, it keeps giving a warning message suggesting I "convert" the files otherwise they may not play. So far, I declined the conversion (and files playback just fine). Any reason why the "weird" filesystem and the warning?
BTW, it is a 400GB SanDisk microSD card.

Just received my device, and I do not have problems seeing the micro sd card. Set the card up as a portable drive. Enabled developer options (about device/tap build number 5 times), backed out to developer options and enabled USB debugging, and that was it. My sd card is formatted exfat. I would like to note that, in USB FILE FOR TRANSFER mode, if you attempt to create a "new folder" on the connected sdcard drive, while using windows explorer, its takes a VERY long time for the folder to populate. In comparison my X7 MKII performs this operations far more expeditiously. Off to enjoy the music. First impressions are high.

Hi Joe
Yes I updated before I tried to do anything else with mine. I'v tried everything from 32gb to 400gb without success.

1. When connecting the card to the computer via the R6, the drive format is abstracted by the "Media Transfer Protocol" (MTP) used to communicate between the R6 and the computer. The result is the weird name you see. Advantages include:
a) all card formats supported by the R6 (including Linux exclusive formats like ext3) "should" be read/writable on the computer.
b) Accidental / "dirty" disconnections halfway through a copy operation should not cause corruption to the drive.

On the other hand, disadvantage is slower speed for certain file operations (e.g. cut and paste on the same drive) as noted by one person above.

As of today MTP is the standard way to do things while direct drive mounting is going out of favor on Android.

2. Windows will warn about format compatibility or prompt you to convert (to lossy mp3s or wma's) for all sorts of music formats the R6 has no problems with. This is the result of an outdated MTP file compatibility database on Windows (that devices ought to be able to modify upon connection, but in reality can't) and unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it.

For people that have issues with transfer. I can suggest a temporary turn around.
Transfer files with FTP protocol using FileZilla on your computer and "FTP server app" on the dap. ( There is free version in f-droid)
The files will be transferred using the WiFi connection.

I was able to replicate your issue, but only by formatting the card to be "internal" to the R6. Try formatting the card again and make sure it is formatted as "portable". If inserting another card and the "New SD card detected" prompt comes out, choose "Use as portable storage". (Actually ignoring the prompt should have the same effect)
