It has a usb-c to coaxial in the box so I’m guessing that’s the way it would work.Out of curiosity, how would you connect that DAP to a desktop DAC? Can the former's USB output data to an external DAC?

Yes, it supports external DACs over USB as do most DAPs.

ZEN DAC features a USB input only, but as per @rlw6534's post this would do. Thanks to both of you!

Yea sorry I should have clarified. I tried using the USB-coax cable out from the R6 to the Dx7Pro coax input, did not like the result hence my comment.
Thinking back I believe I was able to daisy chain and R5 and a Fiio Dac as well. (Just tried it again and works.)

I feel incredibly sorry for any members who have purchased the Hiby R6 2020. I'm on my third replacement unit and I'm watching it not charge/turn on as I type. I've ranted about this before, but it will be a cold day in hell before I'd by another HiBy _anything_. Customer service is horrendous. And Joe what's-his-name on the forum--great intentions as a Hiby rep but really no help at helping solve my problems. I now have a very expensive door stop.
Oh, and I feel a need to point out that in the 10 months of screwing around with Hiby, I purchased both Sony and Fiio DAPs. Guess what? Absolutely no problems with either.

Mine was fine but thanks for feeling sorry mate. Best of luck with your new DAP!I feel incredibly sorry for any members who have purchased the Hiby R6 2020. How would you compare the new r6 to some of the higher end totl stuff? It will be hard to draw a conclusion about one being better than the other or being similar based on comparison of using one IEM and the description of stronger sub-bass or more sparkle in treble. Also, price is no longer a deciding factor especially when you look at 2x-3x-4x higher prices while expecting the same level of improvement in sound.
I would start first by figuring out your budget to narrow down the price and your output power requirements depending on what you are planning to drive. Read other reviews and impressions how IEM or headphones you are using pair up with particular sources you are looking into, do they hiss, is there enough power to drive them efficiently, do they have a good synergy. Figure out if you need streaming or not because some might not have the strongest Android performance to run different apps, or my not support Google Play and will require sideloading. Read what others are saying about wifi performance, as well as Bluetooth with various wireless earphones, including TWS. Look into support comments and frequency of sw/fw updates and fixes. It's a lot of homework to do![]()

Anything specific and relative to a particular pair of iem? Sorry, I have access to way too many daps and hardly a free minute now to go over many comparisons (overloaded at work, at home, with reviews, and prep for CanJam

You are very fortunate my friend. Very.Wanted to give my 1 month impression of my 2020 Hiby R6. I bought mine from Andrew at musicteck (www.musicteck.com). I also got the leather case with the unit. The R6 was an upgrade from my iBasso DX200 with the Amp8 module which I carried around for the last 2 years. I primarily use the unit with iems, my current favorite being the Thieaudo Oracles. I also occasionally connect my ZMF Eikons, Sennheiser HD560s and my Modhouse Argons Mk3. While the R6 has slightly less power than the DX200/Amp8 combo, it has enough power for any of my gear. The build quality is excellent. Sturdy with a good heft and fits well in the hand. The HibyOS is very smooth and very fast. The unit, with a Snapdragon 660 and 4GB of RAM makes interacting with the device liquid smooth. Also the Hiby Music app is very intuitive with no onerous learning curve. Plus I love that the color of the lcd refers to the quality of the music playing. A very cool feature. As to the sound. It is warmer than the DX200 but without any loss of detail. Just a nlush enjoyable presentation without any sibilance. I rarely need togo beyond medium gain to feel like I'm hearing everything my iem's/headphones are giving me. Finally, battery life is excellent. I was out for 6 hours yesterday listening to all flac recordings and I came home to 77% power remaining. Pretty damn good.
I would definitely recommend these to anyone in the market for a new DAP. My other choices were the new DX300, and the A&K Kann Alpha. For my needs the 2020 Hiby R6 was the best choice at a substantially lower price.
Hi, can you point me in the direction of that case?I’m a little late to the R6 party but I’m looking forward to reviewing the R6 2020!

Sorry, I forgot about the silicone case I had on initially. I hated that case over the official leather one but here's the amazon link below.Hi, can you point me in the direction of that case?

I have the tan version of that case with virtually no use on it. If interested, make an offer.
