I don't know anything about headphones. Style is somewhat important to me, I want something not too big, foldable, and it would be nice if the ear muffs swiveled side to side as well. Looking for something non-dependant on source/amp (don't want to go hunting for additional equipment) should have good bass but i don't want crappy mids and highs either.

short list of what i listen to: tribe called quest, nas, biggie, 2pac, jay-z, de la soul, dilated peoples, lupe fiasco, j.cole, B.O.B, pharcyde, fugees, talib kweli, mos def, j electronica, marques houston, brian mcknight, ne-yo, usher, marvin gaye, aaliyah, alicia keys, musiq soulchild, j. holiday..

looking to spend $50-$75 obviously less is better

edit: forgot to mention that i'd also like them not to cover my whole ear because i wear earings

At that price you your only great options for bass heavy headphones (if thats what you want) for rap etc is probably the Sony XB500/700 series.  I think the 700 series has slightly better sound quality.

I find the XB series kinda ugly..

what do you guys think about these

DN-HP700 for $123.11 (After tax, duty, and shipping)
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/544653-REG/Denon_DN_HP700_DN_HP700_Professional_DJ_Headphones.html <---never heard of this site before though so i'm hesitant to buy anything there

These cans are all over my budget but I could spend a little more if it makes a huge difference

keep in mind that I don't want to have to buy an amp as well, and my main source is my laptop

On my Laptop in the Device Manager I have "ATI HDMI Audio" and "Realtek High Definition Audio" listed under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers"

I Like the design of the DN-HP700 and the MDR-V700DJ the most because the cuffs swivel and they're not huge

Like I said I'm a complete noob with this stuff, so let me know if more info is needed

You considered IEM's?

I Have Creative EP630s and they're pretty good but they start to hurt my ears after a few hours...

is it pain from lack of comfort, or from sound? I've heard Fischer Audio eternas are bass monsters, and they run about 70

yeah i've been hunting for those. seems like everyone on these forums owns a pair heh.. problem is they sell for $190 in Canada which is pretty sucky when I've seen them on American sites for $120... not looking to buy used either cause I don't wanna end up with fakes

Well, that's what they actually retail for. how much is shipping from NY to you? BHphoto is one of those sites that has it for 120 and is also legit.. problem is, they perpetually go out of stock =]
