Hi everyone.
I am in a bit of distress and have wondered if anyone has had this problem. Two weeks ago I received a pair of Grado Sr80is for some music but mostly gaming. On music they were great, probably the best headphones I have ever heard. Then I tried them on gaming and although they had a limited soundstage they also sounded great.  I thought the best thing about them was the gunshots, they sounded so real. Like a loud 'CRACK' rather the fake boom you hear in the movies! So like a wally I was loading all the games I had that had guns in and off I went into firearm heaven. After about four hours of this I went out for a break and noticed my ears ringing a bit, which i thought was strange becuase they weren't up really loud, a bit but not very high!  So I gave it a rest thinking I had over done it too much but everything would be alright in the morning. But now, two weeks later they are still ringing and I was wondering if anyone else had this kind of problem and if it had gone away eventually.  I sent the Grados back by the way.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi thanks for the advice, I saw a doctor two days ago. She looked in my ears and said she couldn't see any damage and gave me some eardrops and to come back in a week if they hadn't stopped ringing. I am supposing she ment just the ear drum, I know there is small hairs in the ear that can be damaged as well that I suppose she can't see. Thanks for your comments, I am quite concerned.

That is concerning, and based on my brief conversation with an audiologist the other day, you could have tinnitus or even possible hearing damage. You should probably book an appointment with an ENT specialist / Otologist just to be on the safe side.

Hi, thanks I'll do that. Every day I have hoped I'd wake up and it would be gone. It's not major but it is a definate raise in head noise since using the Grados.

Thanks again for the advice.

Let us know how you get on, and also in future listen to your headphones at quieter levels! :p
All the best Moggie.

Just as well you didn't buy some SR325i's.   TURN IT DOWN.Or get some DT770's and feel the rumble.

Thanks everyone, whatever the outcome I will so much more careful in future. And I will let you know what happens. Just take this warning from a deaf d***head, hearing damage really does happen and it doesn't always just happen at volume 10. There is no turning back the clock and it is bloody scary to think this ringing might be with me all day and all night for the rest of my nautral! Please be carefull everyone.

Thanks for the best wishes, just out of intrest are Grados known for this? They sound bloody fantastic but a bit harsh, mine weren't properly burnt in though. I think I might take a punt on some Sen Hd598's for gaming when/if my ears get better. And keep that volume very low.

I use my Grado HF-2 for music, movies and gaming  for 3 hours in the evening. In the morning I use a set of in-ears for 2 hours and I don't have that ringing in my ears. Maybe you have a ver sensitive ear, maybe that ringing is caused by another factor.

Anyway, just keep us informed.

All the best for you.

Thank you for your kind words, I think I will follow up another doctors appointment very soon. I have heard tinnitus can be caused by many things and it maybe just a coincidence. I just hope I can get back to gaming with decent headphones, it was so good. Tonight I have just finished LA Noir through the tv speakers, what an ending!  It would have been epic with decent headphones though.

 Thanks once again!
