I'm looking for some new headphones. I don't know exactly how to describe what I'm looking for but the following qualities should be of use:

  1. Soundstage depth, not width
  2. Imaging?
  3. Spaciousness?
  4. Rich lower extension (no, I'm not a basshead)?
  5. Surround sound
  6. Full sound?
  7. Immersive soundstage?

The only one that I can think of is the Beyerdynamic DT860.

AKG K1000?
Widely known for its sound stage width, but it certainly does not fail in the depth either. Imo that is.

If you want absolute precision, Stax O2.  If you want a really large soundstage (which is what I think you're asking for) Stax Sigma and AKG K1000, with the Sigma being a step ahead in most everything.

Another vote for the K-1000.  There's nothing else quite like it for soundstage, immersion, and (yes) bass extension.  The K-1000 doesn't "slam," but the notes go all the way down.

This has been asked before long ago. I remember people mentioned Stax electrostatics, AKG K-1000, or Sony PFR-V1. But they aren't really headphones, more like ear speakers lol!

Find some recording that have these qualities. Then use any headphone to hear them.

DT860??

If you mean DT880... why rule it out? It's got amazing imaging, soundstage, etc.
The 600 ohm is the only one I'd recommend, as would many here.

The only thing on your list that I would think doesn't match is 'surround sound' (whaaaa?)

Also, if I was pressed... I wouldn't call the sound of these exactly 'full'. But my definition of 'full' may be different than yours. For full, I'd think of D5000 or HD600.

x2  If it's not recorded in the first place then any "sound-staging" added by the headphone is phony.  Real sound-staging comes from the recording itself.

So, I guess I can rule out the Beyerdynamic DT860. The Sony V1 and F1 look like toys, though.

The F1 is certainly not a toy.  Magnesium construction, very lightweight, uber comfortable and superb soundstage.  Needs lots of hours to reach its full potential though.

Have you heard them before? How do they compare to you K1000s? Do they have a speaker-like presentation? From pictures, they look plastic.
