When I heard the lcd3, bells went off, angels sang, and my heart palpitated...seriously. It was an experience beyond words. Sadly, I have no ambition to get them because of the weight.
The only hp that reminiscent of the lcd2r2 for me, is the maddog with dogpads. I'd call it a first cousin. I mean that as a glowing complement considering the price discrepancy between the two. There is an utterly smooth transition between treble bass and mids with the Audeze line. Ultimately they generate an unparalleled cohesive presentation of music reproduction. For me, it's the most addictive listen in the game.
It's possible that you're right about adjusting. I'd like to hold on to that possibility but I just don't think so. I had them for 10 days. The first day that I had them I was like a kid at Christmas morning getting that special gift that they thought they'd never get. The lcd2 was bothersome after 30 minutes for me, but I just couldn't take them off. Five hours later I gave in to the pain. I knew that I'd overdone it and ended up with a pain in my upper back for about three days. I went back to the hd650 for those three days for recovery purposes. Maybe I could fill the headband of the lcd with some helium.
then you are going to need an equal source and amp to get the best out of them. As I stated in my review, the LCD2's are gonna sound good out of most quality hp amps. I'm sure the LCD3's will too, but you won't be getting your money's worth! I haven't heard the LCD2's on a high end amp, but from what I have read they don't scale as well as say, the HD800's or even the HE500's. But the sound you get out of the LCD2's on a good midprice amp is (believe me!) good enough.
