That measurement are not accurate.........   IMO..

Hope so. But its not like slightly more treble, if smooth is a bad thing. If it can reproduce bass and mids faithfully even then. That would mark a real balanced headphone, which I hope the HE-6 will prove to be :)

You can analize the treble anyway you like, I have not heard a more enjoyable sound signature than the lcd2 and 3 period. If only they weren't so damned heavy, I'd have the lcdr2 now and be saving for the 3.

When I heard the lcd3, bells went off, angels sang, and my heart palpitated...seriously. It was an experience beyond words. Sadly, I have no ambition to get them because of the weight.

The only hp that reminiscent of the lcd2r2 for me, is the maddog with dogpads. I'd call it a first cousin. I mean that as a glowing complement considering the price discrepancy between the two. There is an utterly smooth transition between treble bass and mids with the Audeze line. Ultimately they generate an unparalleled cohesive presentation of music reproduction. For me, it's the most addictive listen in the game.

To my subjective preferences, HE500 have the absolutely dead perfect amount of treble, and near-perfect treble response curve (somewhat de-emphasis between 12k-15kHz, means you get very little "tizz" and treble sounds smooth, albeit with a little less airiness). There is also a slight de-emphasis in the lower treble that mitigates a lot of the aggressive "shout" that is in cans such as LCD2r2 which have a flatter response around that region. The rest of HE500 FR is silky smooth, as intended.

Also extension both into bass and treble are fantastic; sinewave sweeps indicate that bass does not lose energy significantly until about <22 Hz, and there is a fair bit of treble extension even around 19500 Hz (although that might be extending higher just limited by my hearing).

It would be subjectively perfect for me if there is maybe 3~4 dB more upper (12-15kHz) treble but still a slight valley there. Otherwise it's my end-game frequency response.

Great post Jerg thanks. That does explain the smoothness in the HE500's treb.

Matt have you had the LCD2 for any length of time? Only it does sound the like the perfect phone for you, if you could possibly get used to the weight. I do appreciate comfort, and coming from the 650's for many years the weight did take some getting used to. But now I must say it simply isn't an issue. Also my pads on the Audeze have squashed just nicely and I can wear them for hours in comfort without any clamp pressure too.

It's possible that you're right about adjusting. I'd like to hold on to that possibility but I just don't think so. I had them for 10 days. The first day that I had them I was like a kid at Christmas morning getting that special gift that they thought they'd never get. The lcd2 was bothersome after 30 minutes for me, but I just couldn't take them off. Five hours later I gave in to the pain. I knew that I'd overdone it and ended up with a pain in my upper back for about three days. I went back to the hd650 for those three days for recovery purposes. Maybe I could fill the headband of the lcd with some helium.

I currently have the Denon D5000's (obviously I'm a bit of a basshead) and I've been thinking about getting the LCD-2.2's later down the line. From what I've read, it seems these cans will be an amazing fit for me. My question is, how well does the LCD-2.2's scale with gear? Is it worth it to just keep getting better gear for it or saving up for the LCD-3's even further down t he line?

depends on how much u wanna scale.

obviously a LCD-3 system will cost much more than a LCD-2 system. an LCD-3 is more picky about amps and sources and needs a really good amp to sound its best. the LCD-2 just needs decent power from a decent amp.

Wow! In that case I'd play safe and try something else. Its a shame for you bro, no'one should be in pain in this hobby! It must be the weight of the plannar drivers because it seems that they are all heavy. Even if they subsituted the wood for plastic I can't imagine it making that much difference.

Please explain to me the magic behind this?  Both operate essentially the same, with the primary difference being that LCD-3 uses a lighter driver and takes more power than the LCD-2.

+1
man7rah; I think once you get a phone such as the LCD3, (or if you can afford one;) then you are going to need an equal source and amp to get the best out of them. As I stated in my review, the LCD2's are gonna sound good out of most quality hp amps. I'm sure the LCD3's will too, but you won't be getting your money's worth! I haven't heard the LCD2's on a high end amp, but from what I have read they don't scale as well as say, the HD800's or even the HE500's. But the sound you get out of the LCD2's on a good midprice amp is (believe me!) good enough.

Please excuse my language here.  I don't mean to offend anyone.

I always call the LCD-2.2s amp sluts.

They work pretty darn good with just about any quality amp.  (what's a quality amp?)  I know they work very well with the BHA-1, B22, GS-1, GS-X,  this little speaker amp I got (a-100 mini X).  I also read they work wonderfully with the Mj.

The same goes with the LCD-3 on most of these amps.

Yep amp sluts indeed haha. Some amps will sound better of course, but none that I've tried sounded bad. Thats quite something, because every other headphone I've owned hasn't been like this.
