Nice thread. I'm currently tortured by a looming decision to buy one of these. I'm leaning towards the Audeze but I have a voucher that I could use on the HE-500 that would make them cost less than half as much. To go for the best value, or simply the best? Tough choice!

A less than half price HE500 sounds like a bargain!  Suppose you could try them and then if you want to then go for the LCD2 you could sell them for profit and buy the Audeze. But its a tough call. If it helps any, I would recommend the HE500 over the LCD2 if you listen to a wide range of music styles as they are (for me) more of an "all rounder". But the LCD2's do what they do, like no other.

Very nice thread, nice to hear every-ones impressions. Those LCD-2's are very sweet looking LugBug1.

I am currently enjoying the heck out of the HE-500's. Someday towards spring/summer I will be adding the LCD-2 to the collection. From there I will probably take the step to a balanced setup.

Thanks! Pleased your enjoying the hifimans and I'm sure you will like the LCD2's too.

Thats a good point, has anyone had experience of trying both these hp's out balanced? If so, is there much of a difference?

After studying that first pic of them both climbing in the window on little legs, I'm a bit afraid of my HE-500.

Isnt that the HE-6? :D

I've read that they have harder, peakier treble than the he500 and less bass slam and presence than lcd2... so that would be a no

Suppose so... But in all seriousness I would like to try the HE6 someday with an appropriate amp, just to hear what all the fuss is about

Not sure if it will be a little too revealing for my tastes though. My fave phone is the LCD2 after all...

You mean the guy who practically forced the HE-6 on me? Ok I let him do it :D

No seriously, he helped me a great deal and as a matter of fact you contributed too :) So thank you! :)

Thanks! Also,

mumblemumblemumble HE-6 has golden drivers mumblemumblemumble

Wonder if that actually makes anything better though :D

I mean yes the HE-6 is an improvement over HE-500/HE-5LE, but not sure if the gold is the reason :D

Also, as far as the slight treble sizzle goes, it "supposedly" goes away on a speaker amp :) I will see soon enough.

Although my gear isnt particularly flashy except for the HP :P

USB PC --- AUDIO GD NFB 3.32 --- EMOTIVA MINI-X --- HE-6

But hey it should do for starters right? :D

Well if you can have "golden ears" might as well have golden drivers!  That set up looks good enough to me, the Emotiva is supposed to work very well with hungry orthos. And I rate Audio gd very highly too :)
