Ive got around $450.00 to spend on headphones. I was thinking about going to the HD650 for 350ish but I realized they need to be drove so I also need an amp. Also, do they leak allot? I also wanted to go with the E7/E9 combo but I don't have enough for HD650s and e7/e9. So I would only go with E7.

Is this a good idea?

If you are going for an open can go for the DT990 ( 32 Ohm ) which does not require an amp, but will sound better with one if you decide to get one down the line.

I did not enjoy my HD-650's because they were hard to drive, sounded veiled, and just did not provide that nice bass impact I like.  I sold mine because they always sound as if there is a pillow between the driver and my ear.  It drove me crazy.

If you really want to please your ears go get a pair of Denon AH-D2000's.  They are on Headroom's Top 10 list and probably my favorite can.  They are sealed so no sound will leak out and can easily be driven by an iPod because of their 25 Ohm impedance.  They do sound better with an amp so it gives you some room to upgrade down the line.

Both the DT990 and HD-650's do leak some sound as they are open cans.  The AH-D2000's are closed and hardly leak anything at all even at high volumes.

Open DT990 ( 32 Ohm )

A few quick points:

1.) I would strongly suggest you look at the audio gd NFB-12 instead.
2.) I think this the the wrong forum for this.

The E11 AMPs section is better than E7 with more power and clarity, it will work better with HD650.
