HD600 or HD650

On the Y axis you have "amplitude" or volume if you like, on the x axis you have frequency from the lowest bass on the left to the highest treble on the right.

A breakdown of what people mean when they say bass, mid bass, mid  etc can be found here:

ETA - The tool is very handy by the way - but only for getting rough impressions - there is a lot to how a pair of headphones sounds beyond that which can be shown on a graph.

It does help cut through crap though when you get a thread that gets polluted with too much subjectivity.

Completely disagree. I've owned both and the hd600s does everything better than the shures and sound completely different. Comparing the two is like comparing steak and spam. Please op don't base your decision on this.

As referred to the link above,
It mentioned that Bass (Approximately 20hz-140hz) and I saw that the graph for HD650 is higher than HD600 at these frequency range.
Does that mean HD650 has better bass than HD600?

Is it true that both of these Senns need to be turned up fairly loud to start sounding decent?

I have read some people saying the HD650 has a "lush" midrange. Is that also true of the 600?

Any headphone sounds good at high levels.

The HD650 has more bass, and more mid-bass than the HD600. Whether or not it is better depends on what you want.

I've only had a chance to audition HD600 and own the HD650, but from first impression the HD600 had similar quality of bass, controlled and smooth, just less of it.

Being a basshead myself, I'd like to say neither are heavy bass headphones. Don't let the "more bass" moniker of the hd650 make you think they are so.

Indeed, when people say the HD650 is 'bass-heavy' it doesn't mean it's a Sony XB700 or IE8 (bassy-heavy version)! The limitations of subjective language, really.

IMO I wouldn't sweat the decision between the two headphones, they're both very good, really they're more alike than different.

From what I've read, the SRH840 (my SRH750DJ's are far from neutral) are similar to the HD600 in sound signature. Ofcourse, the HD600 will have a bigger soundstage etc.
The HD600 does have a little rolled-off highs, but in a good way. I can listen to them for hours without any fatigue, and they are still very crisp and detailled in the highs. Some people find the SRH840's a little shrill sometimes.

I listen to wide range of music genres, ranging from instrumental, classical, pop, jazz and some rock songs, but not those heavy rock and heavy metal. I dont quite like the sound signature of Shure's, I would prefer something which can deliver balanced sound but good bass (not too bass light and not too bassy). Which model suits me better in these kinds of preferences?

Oops, I forgot to hit the quote button. But you get my point.

So for the music preference that I mentioned earlier, which would be of better choice for me? I have never auditioned HD600 and HD650, but I did audition HD555 and i like it!!                                I have to make a choice these few days

Nobody can make your mind up for you. You've had a pretty wide range of comments and reflections from a variety of posters on both phones - you have to make the decision over which one is more for you.

As several others have said - these are both quality phones - you'll be good whatever you decide.

Yea, I think I would go for HD650 instead..But my main concern is that I am afraid that my D4 is not able to drive it well

I personally have the HD650s and have not yet had the opportunity to try the HD600s, but I love the 650s and you can always get a better amp if you want. Really, your decision can come down to price (the 650s are normally at least $100 more than the 600s, but I've seen places where they're pretty similar in price) and whether or not you think you'd like a headphone that's a little darker (650) or a little brighter (600). At least that's my take on it. (And the 600s aren't actually a bright headphone from what I've read, just brighter than the 650s).

I would pick the HD600 because they're more neutral and accurate.
