Hello,

So I've been doing extensive research and finally have narrowed down my choices to these headphones. In a nutshell I am looking for a pair of headphones that has good clarity, detail, soundstage and instrument separation. I liked the DJ100, but they hurt my ears as it clamped against the bottom of my ear. I also liked the detail and clarity of the HD428, but the bass was horrid on many techno songs.

I listen to every type of music, but mainly 60s and 70s rock, techno, raggae, alt country, R&B and pop. This is what I've heard so far about the phones

ATH A700 - closed, comfortable, great sound stage (from what I hear better then AD700 which I'm surprised by)

ATH AD700 - comfortable, amazing soundstage, cheaper then A700

HD 595 - the Sennheiser sound, which I gather is much like the HD428 but better, how much better though?

HD 448 - closed, Sennheiser sound, but are the HD 595 a much better sounding Headphone?

SRH440 - great clarity and detail, lacking bass though

HFI 580 - good mids, live and bright (is that the same as the HD428?)

In conclusion I am scared about buying headphones because so many are hit and miss for me and the sound/comfort. I guess I have big ears. I was wondering if any of these cans will be like the HD428 or dJ100 in detail and clarity but better. I also thinking a good soundstage would be nice.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thank you.

Hmm, if you have above average sized ears than I suggest going with either the A700 or the HD595, as the other options(with the exception of the AD700) might not envelope your ears comfortably.
