Grado PS500s (new Grado's)
Oct 26, 2011 at 2:45 PM Post #602 of 1,221
Sound is small brother of PS1000, without piercing high...

PS500 are the very first Grado that I am able to listen to it with bowl pads. by the way.

I am putting flat pads to see how the headphones' sound changes

Mine are curerntly at home waiting for me to get there from work. I will let you guys know.

I plan to put the G-cush pads on them that I put on the 325is I still have. I didn't like the small bowls as much.

Audio Advisor has it in stock for list with free overnight shipping and no tax.

Yep and he broke my golden 'reviewers rule' ~ 22 tracks for audition? I'm sure he has a memory like an African elephant but most
people don't. Stick to 5 tracks maximum I say and then let the rest of review center on comparisons with Grados of old or at
least the RS1/RS2 and 325i.

Still can't complain with the lack of decent reviews out there.

Headroom's stock is claiming 2-4 weeks, their review unit is MIA and TTVJ is yet to say boo.

bbophead is our only hope, get that man a HF2 loaner now

Changed the pads (bowl to flat), bass is slightly increased, yet sound is much more clear and direct.

Now I am comparing to other Grados...

With flat pads, PS500 is the smoothest Grado I've ever heard. Beating even MS2i.

These headphones have emphasis on bass, yet the sound is super clear.

Maybe these headphones are very first high-priced Grado that actually worth for money.....

I will continue to compare with rest of Grados I have.

On my head now.

The bass is definitely more separated, and it images better as a whole.

Listening to an amazing Rip of Sinatra at the Sands and it is pretty awesome.

Now a little Eric clapton unplugged. It is like the harshness of the 325is melted away at the upper and and now all you have is creamy highs all the way to the top.

This is a useless post, but I am going to break these in for a while then do some ABX with the 325is's in a day or two.

And what is better the break them in but a little Battlefield 3 :p

I have that album ~ it is totally mint, I believe it was young Quincy Jones who mastered it showing
off his early years prodigious quality as a producer and mastering engineer.

I would like to hear the cons of the PS500 first if anyone could kindly share.

It seems so far that bass can get a little boomy and lacks the attack that you see in the 325's However I can differentiate between the details int he bass better so I guess it is a bit of a give and take.

Listening to some King Crimson now. On I talk to the wind the definition in the flute solo is off the wall (literally!) You can practically draw a map of the room, good stuff.
