Have any Grado owners out there thought about or actually attempted to acquire from Grado Labs a leather-lined headband replacement (a-la the SR-325 and higher models) for their sub-SR-325 Grado headphone?

I use the RS-2 headband on my SR225 (the RS-1 headband only fits the RS-1). The headband is $50 from Grado Labs.

EDIT: Here's some quick webcam pics:

That's great to know. I have often wondered about putting a better quality headband on my SR225's. One of the things that I really hate about my SR225's is the cheezy headband. The one for the RS-2 looks great, and is just what I would like to do.

That's great. Thanks for the responses.

Any idea whether the leather headband that comes with the 325 is available and would be cheaper than the RS2 headband to replace the plastic headband on a sub-325 model?

I'm not sure how much the SR325 headband costs, but I think it's of lower quality than the RS2 headband, IIRC.

after useing the 325's and the rs-1's I think the 325 hurts more in the long run.

download the pic i just took. the smaller headband is the 325's and the larger is the rs-1

The stock SR-225 and lower headbands are utterly pathetic. Definitely one of my pet peeves about my SR-80's is the flimsiness of the contrsuction. All is forgiven as soon as they're on me head, of course.

Is it easy to replace the headband or do you have tos end it to grado to be changed, i would pay $40 for the RS - 2 headband.

That's a good question.

I just assumed that changing out the headbands on the Grados would be a simple matter of taking off the rubber tips at the top of the Grado "antennae" and sliding the headband off (and just reverse this for putting on a new headband)?

NeilPeart, it sounds like you have done this mod. Can you confirm the ease with which this little home improvement can be done (or not)?

Thanks.

I had the chance to demo the 225, 325 and RS2 today.

The 325's leather headband is narrower than the headband of the RS2, but I can't speak to whether there is a difference between the headband of the RS2 and the RS1.

Incidentally, I was expecting to enjoy the sound of the 325 more than the 225, but found that I much preferred the sound of the 225 (of course I loved the sound of the RS2 above these two, but not at its price) with its really nice bass-pop and clear but not piercing highs - I found the highs too much on the 325.
