The 325is are $295. The RS2e are $495. The GH-1 went for $650. Another $150. for extra bass extension. I put the $150 toward an additional pair of headphones.. Audio-technica ATH MSR7gm when their price dropped.

Short answer, yes.
The RS2e are much smoother and simply much clearer than the SR325is. The 325is lack bass. Headphones without bass are useless. I find the 325is too harsh to listen through! Funny, I've tried the SR325e and found them much improved? The 2e just are way more accurate and enjoyable. They're much lighter and look much better.
It took me a year to except the price jump, however I have no regrets. They are my reference cans of seven..that includes a pair of vintage Stay. But wait, when purchasing the RS2e I also listen to their limited run GH-1. They took the RS2e and tweaked the low bass and it was delightful! I just couldn't in all honesty see another price jump for a another octave of punchy bass?
I went back and force and I am happy with my choice. I hope that helps?

Thank you, it's very helpful.

Just wanted to jump in and express my love for the SR80e I purchased just a week ago.

They have had me going back through my old metal/rock/punk catalog and listening to them as if they were new again!

Chuck your drivers for Nhoords. Much better bass.

I think this happens to everyone who makes their first the Grado purchase and enjoys the sound signature. In my case, this happened to me with my 80i.
Enjoy!

The SR80 series is perhaps the perfect entry level model for Metal/Rock. I actually started with the SR60 but the bass control/speed wasn't quite as good for faster genres as the SR80.

I've heard a lot of people say that the SR235e is probably the best "bang for the buck" Grado for rock, at least in the Prestige line. For only $100 more, I might be looking at those for an upgrade. I do love the SR80e, though...decisions. lol

Well IMO the “best bang for your buck” now is the 325e. From 2014 when the e series got out until now I rarely see the 225e in my country, which is quite strange because the 225i was hugely popular, much more so than the 325is. But with the e series upgrade I think the 325e is truly the king of the Prestige Series. For me buying the RS2e or PS500e when you have the 325e would be sidegrading, not upgrading.

That said the 325e is $295. Though much more expensive than the SR80e it did give me peace of mind (For a while).

I didn't say they're the same animal. I said they're a side step.

Then I'd have to disagree. As much as I like the SR line, especially the SR-325/MS-2, the RS cans are superior. My ears tell me that the RS line bring better imaging, bigger sound stages and extended frequency response--especially bass.
