I should use my Porta Pros more?
If you like metal I certainly highly recommend them. They go very well with both the Sony daps that you own

Good choice. Love the early trilogy.
The early trilogy are some of my favourite albums ever. I own most their stuff and even when doing electronic stuff the atmosphere is awesome

Yep, I saw them live when the first started doing the ambient stuff. It was very good, though I lost track of their later stuff. Loved the earlier EPs, "Quick Fix of Melancholy, " and all that.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I'm most likely going to go for the audio technica MSR7B. I don't have any amps or anything, can those be driven okay without them? I don't listen to lossless music anyway, I use apple nusic.
Yes, easily driven from a phone. Really great headphones, superb clarity. They also come with a 4.4mm balanced cable if you get a dap later on (I.e., the Ibasso DX160).

Since I primarily (read: exclusively) use apple music a dap is a no-go. The funny thing is, I have a pixelbook go and an android phone, but apple music is -- by far -- the best streaming service so I stuck with them.

What about those cheap usb-c dongles/dac things. do those acrtually improve sound?

I think a dragonfly is a huge step up in sound quality. Not cheap though, same price as the headphones you are looking at.

I think the Sennheiser 58X is a pretty good choice myself. The Msr7b is definitely an upgrade to the M50x, but I can't picture myself listening to long sessions of death metal with them. I'd feel like my head was going to explode. The 99 Classics / Noir are a little darker in nature, which is generally a good thing with this type of music imo. This would be my pick unless I wanted open backs, which I would choose the 58X.

Does it make a difference if it's headphones or iems? Where do you keep your dap when you're on the move??

Yes, I remember hearing it in this?

Stormblast has that vibe too, maybe?
