This is cool. Thanks for sharing. I went down this rabbit hole about a year or so ago, cut the stems etc. After all the effort, wound up going back to the Shure TW2. Better call quality and transparency mode. That said, I might give this a whirl. Idle hands are the devils workshop!
I think for budget BT adapter, the AZ20 is excellent. I can't recommend the AZ09p anymore after KZ removed the AptX adaptive with the newer version of it.
From my experience, the UTWS5 has the most amount of power to drive most IEMs (UM MEST MK2, Indigo, etc) but it is not the most reliable at times (need re-pairing). The KZ AZ09p and AZ20 seems to be more reliable while not that powerful, but still can drive less power hungry IEMs just fine like the Aful performer 8.

I hear you. Some of these reasons are why I stuck with the Shure. Slap a 2pin adapter on them and then mess with the power settings by switching what model Shure IEM you want to use them with. I set mine to the SE215 and they power my Claivoyance great. I've used them with Moondrop and a ton of other IEMs. Zero issues. The hardest part with them is getting the EQ settings just right (if you're into that). I had the UTWS5, UTWS3, AZ09 Pro, etc. At the end of the day, issues, or I hit a wall for use case scenarios. I think I just talked myself out of trying the AZ20... for a few minutes at least! They're not too much cheaper than the Shure adapters.

For my case, any BT adapter needs to have at least AptX adaptive codec because I use them for playing games too. For movie or music listening, AptX/LDAC are good enough, but the latency is not great. I am connecting to Creative BT-W5 and I can toggle between AptX adaptive high quality (24/96) or low latency (24/48) with around 50ms latency which is pretty darn good for wireless.
Also I don't really like Shure IEMs sound signature (overly thick female vocal). Back then, when Sennheiser, Shure and Westone were still the dominant player in the IEMs world, I would always go with Westone's sound.

Well if your looking for a compact TWS like those, look at the Fiitii Hifidots
Listening to mine right now, not a TOTL TWS and app. is useless, BUT I really like the aesthetics, hybrid design / sound quality, and price is very reasonable.

I get it. For clarity, I'm only talking about the Shure adapters, not the IEMs. I have zero latency issues with them using my Steam deck and streaming devices

I like how balanced they sound and am surprised they were able to jam a DD and 2BA drivers for such a compact size
BA’s need very little space.

Oh ok. Just saying as most DD, 2 BA driver TWS I got are a bit bigger than these.

A Sonion dual BA. Small and sealed so they also need no airspace behind like a DD needs airspace.
