Build Quality is key here. I did a recable for this same friend and he managed to hook his knee (???) into the y-split and completely rip the wires out of the cups and snap the headband all in one go. There are a lot of great budget-fi options out there for under $50 but I need to know which ones will hold up under high user stress. He's not actively destroying his things, but is just generally a little rough on his gear. Here's what I'm thinking so far, other suggestions are very welcome.

Very rocky music genres

Koss PortaPro - $30. Lifetime Warranty

Koss UR55 - $50 Not sure if the same warranty applies

Audio Technica M30's $45 - Seems sturdy enough. Good cable gauge, single sided entry so he won't be pulling that maneuver again

Any other ideas?

What about the Samson/Superlux stuff?  Seems to be relatively sturdy, and not expensive at all.

Panasonic RP HTX7, you can destroy them completely and still bend them back into shape
