But I play a lot of FPS games (BF3, BO2, DOTA, DOTA2) so I really need some sound stage with my SBX surround...

Will I be more satisfied with the DT990 PRO ?

I mean they will distort as in the DT770 PRO or they are better ?

Between the Ultrasone 750 and the DT990 PRO, which one do you recommend ?

Please I really need to hear other opinions....

Thanks.

Will it distort with high volumes like the DT770 PRO-80 ?
I do believe the AMP that came with the Creative Sound Blaster Z is a good one and support headphones with up to 600OHM.
But the thing is I like high volume and good bass(like the DT770). Will the DT990 PRO-250 give me that ?
It's for $199.99 on Amazon same price as the DT770 PRO-80.

The DT990s are a bassy headphone.

I never noticed the distortion in my DT770s

I do think the Sound Blaster Z is a good value.

Yeh but then again I don't find the answer I am looking for.....

Will the DT990 PRO distort or will it have the exact same capabilites as the DT770 but with different sound signature ?

EDIT: I am leaning toward the DT990 PRO-250 as I only heard good things about it plus I tried the DT770 and it was the most comfortable headphones ever !

I also read a lot of bad things about the Ultrasone PRO 750 especially with gaming....

So I think I will go with the DT990 PRO 250 but please tell me I am making the right choice ?

I do like the audio quality of the DT990 Pro 250-Ohm and I hear very little negative feedback about the DT990.
(I now use the DT990 Premium 600-Ohm and DT880 Premium 600-Ohm).

But as your the first person who I've heard say they had distortion with the DT770 and I never noticed it with my DT770.
So I feel I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I've tried out a friends DT770 on my setup and I'm not hearing this distortion you speak of.  However, I am using an external amp along with my Titanium HD.  I'm not sure if you have a faulty driver/hardware or something else.

My 770 Premium 600 ohm's bass distorts on high volume and I've heard from many others who experience the same thing with the 770s. Its not extremely noticeable and you have to have the volume very high. I haven't heard the 990 but my guess is that it won't distort like the 770s because of the open-back providing more than enough air flow for the bass.

@PurpleAngel and @KetchupNinja:

More on the 770's distortion--

I suspect it happens in varying degrees and there may even be some 770s that don't distort at all, though I doubt it. If you never listen at very loud levels (> 90 db) you may never experience it. To findout how much your 770 distorts, grab this 30 hz test tone:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/957144/30hztone.wav

Listen to it on repeat and turn the volume up slowly until you hear distortion. It will sound pretty much identical to what it sounds like to have a hair stuck in the driver. It will occur first in the right channel at about 90 db or so. Report back if you can, I'd be interested to know how much different people's 770s distort.

I'm willing to bet its not. Bass distortion with the 770s is quite common among people who listen very loud.

EDIT: He also already mentioned that it happens with two different sound cards.

Exactly, soundcards..  Any of my headphones sound like absolute rubbish coming directly out of them.

Maybe you can describe what you mean by "sound like absolute rubbish" so he can determine if that's what he's experiencing. If its bass distortion on very low sub-bass at high volume and starting in the right channel then its the 770s.

But the problem is that I tested it with my on board soundcard(with built in amplifiers up to 600OHM) Its a high end mother board I have... Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H.

Also, tested with the Titanium HD and with the Sound Blaster Z.

All the same distortion.

PS: I also exchanged with with another DT770 from the near guitar center and the same exact thing happend.

When you say 'distortion' do you mean the sub-bass distortion I've described or overall distortion throughout the frequency range?
