You know him? I'm using an iPhone 6S + so I just Googled iPhone DAC to see if it had a decent one, and I found that... are you implying I still could benefit from something fairly inexpensive, like a FiiO E17/18?

yeah, i know of him. all i'm saying is that you could try the th900 with your iphone in the meantime. that way you can enjoy your new cans while considering your options.

Smart move going for the 900.

IMO keep them stock, upgrade DAC and amp as $$ allows in the future.

Or if you do mod, do the DIY mods for the TH900

didn't know that the th600 had been discontinued

It was silently removed from the Fostex site a few months ago... And as far as I know sales were rather low compared to the TH900 (which may not be true everywhere of course)

If you want my completely subjective, and uninformed opinion, I think unless you're absolutely sure the TH-600 with the Lawton Audio mods are better than a stock TH-900 (ie. listening auditions), it's probably a safer bet to just go with the TH-900 stock.

The issue, with me at least, is that you don't really know if the Lawton Audio mods actually do anything/improve sound significantly. It's a third-party company, that I've never heard of until now, etc.

Then again, that IS why you're asking here in the first place, to ask for impressions on the Lawton Audio mods. But at the same time, I've learned not to trust all online reviews out there.

Just my subjective opinion.

fyi - lawton audio has been around for a few years now. mark lawton has been in the business of modifying fostex cans since it was the oem for denon. denon's closed cans are legendary. fostex no longer manufactures cans for denon but it subsequently introduced the th900 and th600 under its own name. these share the same dna of the denon models but have been updated and refined. lawton audio now offers a customisation service for these models.

I see. To my defense, I did preface my post by saying it was uninformed and completely subjective.

Even if Lawton audio is reputable, I still wouldn't bite on the TH-600 with the mods over a stock TH-900, unless I had actually auditioned them and was absolutely sure the mods on the TH-600 made it better than the TH-900.

But, again... completely subjective opinion.

The all-black design has its merits... Will be interesting to see if demand surges after they are discontinued

my friend owns a pair. i'll let him know as i doubt that he's aware of this. not sure if he'll be elated or deflated.

no need to get defensive - just giving you a potted history of lawton's symbiotic relationship with fostex

What is your deal with trying to make people look like villains? You're the same guy who hounded some other fellow in this thread about the use of the word "euphonic", which a lot of people got a pretty good laugh out of, by the way.

You are absolutely ****ing bonkers.

Just because I want to defend myself/clarify a previous post I made, doesn't mean I'm accusing you of attacking me. Get a grip.
