Impressions: tighter bass with better focus and articulation, 3D soundstage a speaker like presentation.
My guess is that they realized they had priced them too high at launch, because it didn't sell as well as hoped.Anyone knows why the price of the TH600 is dropping by so much recently?
Is Fostex discontinuing them soon?
Is there a replacement ear-pad set like the stock earpads for sale anywhere (but not the idemitsu material) ?
Replacement ear pads (and other parts) are sold only through Fostex distributors. Ask your local dealer.
Thanks. I meant non-OEM...they were for D2k and though there are pads for D2k on ebay, I found nothing on there like the stock TH-600 pads.
As an owner of a nice old pair of slightly modded Denon AH-D2000, are these essentially those headphones, but better? Should I just jump to the TH900 for significantly better sound?
My opinion - a LA-2000 is very close to a TH-600 and a MD-7000 is basically a clone of it. This based on owning all three Denons and auditioning the TH600 for 10 days. I'm also 53 and don't have golden ears (thankfully).
If you can sell the D2000 for $300 and buy a TH-600 for $500 (which is the used price now) it may be worth the $200 delta.
I owned the TH900 for a few months and think the D7000 I own is just about as good. Close enough that I sold the Fostex.
By those measures, I think I did the right thing jumping in on the Fostex TH600 at $480 new from HeadRoom, having no experience with the Denons.
That's a great price new! As you probably know, Fostex was the OEM for Denon on the D2000, D5000 and D7000 so the TH600/900 is the same chassis.
I had wanted to try the Denons years back, but couldn't make the investment. So I was bummed that they were discontinued and then later that the Fostex were priced so high. So when it dropped to $600 a little while ago, they came back on my radar, and the 20% off sale cinched it for me.
I think I'll splurge for the TH900 cups, because they really add some nice splash. Wether the Lawton angled pads are also worth it is another thing. Not sure on that. I'll start with stock and work from there.
Has anyone of you owned or heard both, the TH600 and the Audio Technica W5000?
