For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

Spotify > Fiio BTR7 balanced > AQ Nighthawks Carbon

I've been on an Eric Serra kick lately, the guy who did 'Leon: The Professional' and 'GoldenEye' and 'Subway' scores.

Penon Serial and Cayin N7, spectacular combo and I remember immediately why I never want to sell Serial.
Not celebrating 4th of July here, but I raise a toast for you guys. Cheers.

I've slowly been working my way through Tegan and Sara's discography, and I've really been enjoying them! They're remarkably consistent without sounding too samey. I think this is a small step down from the last album I listened to, Heartthrob, but it's still very good.

Going back to my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80s.

Despite the mastering being generally crap, and too sizzly, it plays nice with the DT770s.

This album is a joy.

I had avoided vocal jazz for a long time.

This was a mistake.

Been playing around more with the Tanchjim Zero while I did a bit of vacuuming.

Have some more thoughts since yesterday. Shouty I think is the word I was looking for rather than bright, and it seems my ears are a bit more sensitive to that than they are to treble spikes, although yesterday it was really bothering me with some songs, but today it's not bothering me much.

It seems like the narrow bore tips reduce this shoutiness a bit but I feel like the sub-bass loses out a little, and since there's a delay in my A/B tests due to the actual process of switching tips I'm still not 100% on which I prefer. I've also noticed that not inserting the tips so deep seems to fix the shoutiness pretty much completely, but it can be hard to get a secure fit if I do that.

One thing I've noticed though is the more forward mids mean for a lot of tracks I can enjoyably listen to these at a significantly lower volume than my other headphones. They're also comfy enough to sleep in as I hoped (my main reason for buying them) - not that I got much sleep last night as I'm currently quitting cigarettes for the 2nd time and the insomnia is god awful.

Probably gonna post a mini review/impressions on the Tanchjim thread over in the portable/IEMs section later today or tomorrow.

Edit/Update:

I went back to the narrow bore tips and more shallow insertion and I definitely think it's a huge improvement. Narrow bore seems the way to go for these. Not noticing the reduced bass like I noticed yesterday, so maybe that was just a tip size issue rather than narrow vs wide bore.

I'm new to jazz overall - still learning to appreciate what I'm hearing. I understand why you may have avoided for a while. Some vocal jazz can be quite boring. And then some albums (like this) are an incredible treat :musical_note::musical_note::musical_note:
