Focal Utopia General Discussion
Jan 13, 2021 at 7:02 AM Post #13,741 of 20,554
I have a pair of Utopias coming for audition later this week or early next. Given all the positive comments here, I am really looking forward to the experience. :)

Currently using, and loving, HD800 headphones. So by all reports, the Utopias would be the right next step. Who knows, may have to change my avatar photo.

I once read something about a 5 year guarantee when you registered the device.
Is it still relevant?

Some words need to be blocked, how many times has this be asked/answered?

On the positive side I cleaned my Utopias today, they needed it! While I cannot say they sound better, they feel more comfortable. I noticed the goo that other had mentioned, it is worth checking regularly. Big thanks to @Energy for the instructions and particularly for recommending:

https://www.howardproducts.com/product/leather-cleaner/
https://www.howardproducts.com/product/leather-conditioner/

Much cheaper than other products sold specifically for headphones, but made by Howard for them and then rebranded with a large mark-up.

The original Utopia cable is an imposition.
It'ss too rigid for me.
Time to heat up the soldering iron.

The B&W Signature is a dream.
Super soft and thin. So hardly noticeable

I have the 2020 version of the Utopias (new packaging, accessories);

Can't fault the stock cables, personally.

The rubber coated stock cable’s warmth and dark background (especially in the highs) is my goto. May consider the Lazuli.

Anyone tried the Utopia's with any AKM4499EQ dac, and liked it?

The Focal Arche comes with 2X AK4490, sounds fabulous. Even though I think that amplification is more important than the DAC once you cross a certain level.
