Setting the preamp to -5 db does the same thing.Better to cut rather than boost with eq. Why not leave the low shelf at 0db gain and cut all of the other frequencies 5db from the current settings?

Missed that in your original post.

To be sure I understand, you are saying that they measured several pair of Utopia, and you have those sets with the associated calibrations available for sale, correct?
It would be interesting to know how much variation there is between the various sets' calibrations -- i.e., how much variability there is between Utopia instances. Also, how do they create the profile in their software? Take some average calibration derived from the individual calibrations they got from your sets?
Yes, they measure three of each model to get an average measurement for the software profile (I have those three sets here). I don't have details on the process or access to the measurements so I can't comment about variances.

Just warning people: I've run a +5dB bump in the 60hz range before. You will eventually experience some music out there that will clip even at moderate volumes. There isn't a lot of headroom in Utopia's suspension design. That's why it sounds so dynamic afterall.
I run a +3dB bump as a comprimise. It sounds pretty great.

Okay, interesting. Will take under advisement.
Yeah, I've rattled the drivers on my Utopia's a few times. It's scary because it's unexpected. I'm very cognizant of were I have the volume when listening to music with them now. Luckily, it doesn't take a lot of power to get them sound good.Just warning people: I've run a +5dB bump in the 60hz range before. Say i order a utopia through the source av. Get 5 year warranty. A driver goes out after warranty is up. Then what? Will focal repair it? How much?

Yes Focal would take care of the repairs or make available the repair POST warranty. It would not be required to have TSAV interface but certainly could be the most expeditious way to achieve the repair if needed.

Hi franz12,
there are indeed news, although more at the level of the Elear and Clear, not the Utopia,
I am copying and pasting below what I posted today in the Elear and in the Clear threads,

"To this day, 3 models exist: the Elear for € 1000, the Clear for € 1500 and the Utopia for € 4000. All these headphones are of the open type. Beginning October a closed headphone for € 1000 will complete this offer."

Thanks for letting me know this. Very good news, though I wish it was a new open-back.
