Focal Utopia General Discussion

If you don’t care about the quality of your purchase and the support of the product, go onto audiogon or eBay. All those sellers are not authorized and have good deals. No one cares not even me. The choice is yours. America is a free country.

Not sure why you think adoramas service is poor or that they're not authorized. You went ahead and wanted to get them removed from the list or "check" if they were removed. For someone who says they dont care, you definitely care enough to call Focal.

They are a dealer for headphones and some other products just not the Elear, Clear or Utopia. Its a different dealer franchise
Again, not according to the website. If you click the 'Headphones' radio button, and then choose Utopia, Clear or Elear, in the 'Product Family' drop-down, Adorama is listed for all three:

I’ve been authorized to post the folliwing;

Hi Jason,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. To be clear Adorama is no longer an authorized Dealer of Focal Consumer Premium Headphones: Elear, Clear and Utopia. Any such persons or entities making such claims is false. The issues with the Dealer Locator listing them as such was incorrect. It was caused by a issue in on website. We are in the process of fixing and correcting the issues.

I want to thank you for being an advocate for Focal and look forward to seeing you at RMAF.

Best Regards.
Sanjay Sharma

I have never made any comment with regard to any conduct or service with that company. I just know that the Focal Website has issues and they are actively trying to address them. In the meantime I offered a known fact that they are not authorized to sell the Elear, Clear and Utopia.

I can say I would want to know if a listed dealer was not authorized. Oversight by Focal or not, it would suck to have a problem and find out later. I have spoke with Jason on a couple of occasions and he was very helpful. I appreciate the info about Adorama. I have purchased from them, without issue, but knowledge is power. I look forward to working with Jason again, I need a new DAP. Even if my wife doesn't agree!

No longer listed.

Also, the Adorama website still lists the Utopia and Elear, as well as the Clear Pro, but all are either 'back-order' or 'special order'. So it's finally cleaned up, only 11 months later :)

Understandable with the transition Focal America has recently gone through.

isnt there a way to get back to discussion of the utopia among people here and not a dealer literally dominating half the discussion?

I got the Elex pads in a couple of weeks ago but haven't been able to spend a ton of time with them. However, I saw that the drop was ending in 2 days, so I thought I'd share my experience with them so far to help out anyone that was still on the fence.

The Utopia is my favorite headphone but I've always felt that it could use a little bit more bass. For whatever reason, EQing never left me satisfied, so I searched for other ways to boost the bass. It's part of the reason why I fell in love with the way the Utopia sounds out of the Woo WA7 with EHX Gold Pin tubes. Don't get me wrong, the Utopia has plenty of extension and presents the bass with a ton of detail. In the first minute of Some Chords - Deadmau5, there's an almost electric bass crackle going on. With the WA7+EHX, you can hear the texture of that crackle with the Utopia. The texture gets drowned out when listening on a neutral solid state amp by the rest of the music.

The Elex pads add just enough bump in the bass that the overall character of the Utopia is not changed so much. I can hear the electric texture in the into of Some Chords. The treble loses some sizzle but not its sparkle. Overall, it brings the Utopia FR closer to that of the Clear, which to me is a good thing, without losing the Utopia's speed and dynamics. At $60 on Massdrop, every Utopia owner should seriously consider picking up a pair.

The Elear pads are a bit of a waste of time. They bring the bass of the Utopia up more than the Elex pads, but kill the upper mids. It's fine when you're listening to EDM or Hip Hop but not really good with anything else. Also, the rougher material on the Elear pads, vs the Elex pads, is a lint and dust magnet and annoying as hell.

Has the US distributor for Focal changed?

Has the US distributor for Focal changed?

Yes. Focal NA was in a different partnership. It’s has a new partner and a different location.

FYI Focal America is car stereo only and is not a partner with Focal Global other than US distribution for the Focal car stereo product.

Thanks, Jason. What do you guys sell in the way of pure silver Utopia cables? I’m looking for a 1 meter terminated to a 2.5mm for hookup to my AK240SS.
