Focal Utopia General Discussion

then start a separate thread where you discuss the Utopia or any other product that you sell, make it clear and obvious that that is the clear purpose of the thread ...ok,i will leave it at that if people are ok with a dealer literally being the most active poster here so be it....

Being as you stayed on the Utopia topic out of all the people here on headfi who here has provided more access to information than TSAV? We gave Dealer names and locations where you could audition and/or make a purchase with, we gave warranty information, we gave you Focal import schedules and all sorts of usable information. Who of all here has spent the most time with the Utopia and Focal as a company. Who answered all of your questions when Focal remained silent. Who besides the Sponsor @MTMECraig Is here with lots of popular gear responding to pairing impressions requests. If anything I’d say @MTMECraig & @TSAVAlan are great community members trying to support and help the community. As for me, I try to give you all usable and fruitful data. It is our policy to let you know in a related thread if there is a time sensitive sale at our store and to let you all know when New products are coming.

That’s it in this thread even if you include the Utopua again. Start that thread, I’m an open book and ready to learn your perspective.

Until Focal deems it a priority to have an official representative on Headfi, I am glad to have The Source AV as the unofficial source of Focal headphones and warranty policies. The clarification about warranty differences between online and in store was extremely helpful.

Thx! :beerchug:
Actually there is an official Focal representative assigned to these threads for nearly a year. Marine is her name. She seems to pop up about once a quarter. :)

Hi guys, have not been keeping up with the thread much lately (christmas and all).

But just wanted to say, i've recenly gotten the WA33 EE (see my sig for photos).

And the utopia when paired with tubes....sound...............delicious!

*faints* listening as we speak, just had to come say something, :)!

P.S. Jason from the source is awesome. Many fine conversations with him, and he's helped me out alot with recommendations and different business dealings in this hobby. (haters gonna hate)

You do have a point here. And it is often a fine line for @TSAVJason to walk on. Personally, I find the vast majority of TSAVJason's posts informative and adding to the collective knowledge of this thread without being self serving. Of course, there is a difference between announcing a product and promoting it. If any dealer has the right to announce a product on the thread then it is ok for TSAVJason to do so as well. Of course, there is no arguing that this ought to be (primarily?) an enthusiasts' forum and there is a difference between contributing and dominating a conversation.

Yes, you’ve added a lot to this thread. For myself, I don’t have any objection to the amount you’ve contributed.

But, this is an ad, plain and simple:

The Source AV now has 2 exclusive cables! The Blue Cobra ($299) and the Black Cobra ($499)!

Took some pics earlier today, really gorgeous cables!

We have our samples terminated to the Utopia and Clear/Elear to 4.4mm balanced and 6.35mm respectively but will have plenty of options to customize and choose from~

Much better to have posted a brief message here referring to the post on the sponsor deal and announcement page. JMHO

I've been following this thread for a year now, and unless my memory is faulty (which it could be, I am rapidly approaching my mid-forties), the cable pics post was the first I've seen from Jason or any of his associates that could remotely be seen as self-promotion. There are lots of questions about cables for the Utopias (they happen almost as often as those pesky warranty policy discussions), so I don't see the post as being inappropriate since it is announcing another option. Now, if once they go one sale, every other post by Jason is about TSAV's cables, that would be another story.......... but I don't see that happening based on past behavior. My impression is that the folks at TSAV are enthusiasts who are fortunate to make their livings doing something they love. Now, if I could just figure out how to get money for petting my dogs 40 hours a week........

i'm not ok with it and neither are other members of this forum, but this has been going on since last year and it looks unlikely to abate, which is disappointing.

i follow closely the chord forums and rob watts will inject from time to time to answer technical questions about the products he designed and answer problem questions about the use of his products etc...he also has his own thread where people will ask him technical questions about the various chord products etc...this is i very appreciative of.....a dealer hawking his own business directing people on the forum to his website to buy products from him i simply think is inappropriate...i have zero issue with his having his own separate thread which is truly dedicated to selling his products but somehow to me and perhaps others a dealer being the most active member of a forum group seems wrong.....there you have it

It is our policy to be a source (no pun intended) of information and access. I’d like to better understand your position but would you mind expressing these thoughts via email of PM rather than create the traffic here. Thx!

Then you should put your advertisements in your sponsor thread and stop advertising in product threads. The amount of marketing you do in product threads is absurd.

I have to agree with many in this thread. While TSAV has been (and is) a great source of knowledge, this is nothing but an ad within this thread for their new cables (that are named in the same way as moon-audio's and priced similar as well, surprise). Be like all the other sponsors and sellers and post this stuff in a separate announcement thread.

Not only is this off-putting, but the way you reply to people who raise valid concerns is borderline juvenile.

The way you reply to these sort of criticisms just makes people think less of you. Be serious and take these notes seriously.

It was an ad. An ad many of us don't care to see clog up a thread about a pair of headphones. You can reply to this with humor to try and brush it off, you can ignore it, or you can reply like a grown adult with the reason you believe this isn't an ad, isn't intrusive sales tactics, and isn't off-putting.
