with Utopia (stock cable), it feels like a speaker. the sound coming from outside
so yeah i do feel like listening on a loudspeaker on inside the headphone

Ergonomically and sonically, the stock Utopia cable really holds these amazing headphones back.

right now i also have a PlusSound cable for Utopia. it gave Utopia more mids (meatier vocals) but made the soundstage smaller and less airier. layering and imaging are less compared to the stock.

Sadly, i have yet to find the right cables for me. I've tried a lot of aftermarket cables in the past for different headphones to name a few, cardas, kimber, black dragon, whiplash cable (customs), alo, etc.
but I'm always coming back to stock cables. so there :dt880smile:

The Lazuli Reference really improved on soundstage with both the Utopia and HE1000V2s. I'd suggest you give it a try. :)

I'll just chime in that the Norne silver (mentioned by Mulveling above) is one amazing cable. I have one with Audeze connectors I use now mainly on my ZMF Eikon (I use a Draug2 on my LCD4).
I like this better than the Lazulli I have (non-reference though). The Norne is tigher and more transparent in the bass and doesn't try to over-puff-up the mids.

By Norne Silver, did you mean the Draug Silver?

i recently auditioned the cma600i with the utopia. while i agree that the stock cable is cumbersome, it didn't seem to be holding the sound of the utopia back to me - quite the opposite actually.

Then try a better cable. The stock cable makes the Utopia sound closed, lack of clarity / details and as a bit harsh sometimes.

If the stock cable was good, then the difference shouldn't be that big.

You'd be quite surprised how much the stock cable is holding the Utopia back.

I'm not here to debate because these are things you should simply listen for yourself.

I was actually also one of those people who never bought cables for headphones. But considering how heavy and long the Utopia cable is, I was forced to buy one. And I was shocked at the difference (which I did not expect) :p
