Focal Utopia General Discussion

similar impressions when i compared the hd800/s to the utopia. the hd800 was considerably brighter, leaner and comparatively bass lite; 'soundstage' was larger tho. the hd800s (which i preferred to the hd800) was still noticeably brighter and also lacked the utopia's tonal saturation. it was the differences in tonal balance between them that struck me more than anything else in my brief comparisons.

When I listened to the Utopia, I didn't think it was particularly bright in the level of HD800. HD800s still carries that forward treble presence(when it gets punchy, I get concerned my hearing will get damaged) even if people state that 6k region has been reduced(according to the graph, that region there was a slight cut).

Loud but not uncomfortable. As I said, it didn't use to do it on the same tracks at the same volume. Something had obviously happened during use. I'll just be happy to get them back fully working.
I have this issue on my CLEAR, but only on really loud volumes and when there is a strong kick drum, I lower the volume just a tad, and it's gone. I think it's just the way the speaker is designed. Certain songs I can play even louder and it doesn't do it at all.

Last night, I heard crackling/vibrating distortion on my left driver. I pulled the ear pad off and and used a soft brush to clean the inner cup carefully. Distortion was gone after that. I believe it was a hair caught on the driver. Either that or the pad was not 100% secure.

hair in drivers was/is an issue on some beyerdynamic headphones too. I recommend completely shaving your head before using any headphones. Like this:

Ahhh, thanks.

I've always referred to those forums as the For Sale Forums, or Classifieds. "Second Hand" sounds like we are gettin' our stuff from the salvation army! :)

People in China usually have learned the term as second-hand when Americans would say just used or not new. Sure enough, I looked and hes’s from HK.
