Focal Utopia General Discussion

I listen to my naim nd5 xs Chord 2 qute going through my trilogy 933 and focal utopia headphones but like Gordon Ramsey says when he comes home he just gets the Mrs to cook, and I feel like that sometimes when the kitchen stereo is on, couple of grand nothing to shout about but I enjoy listening to it every time.it's like Top Gear complaining it's that good it's boring,it's like we are striving for perfection but is it fun?we spend so much time wanting something better when we already have something special, think we need to stop chasing and sit back and enjoy the music

Nah, if it was hifiman there would be an Elear V2.

If it was Hifiman, the new version would be called Elear 2 or Elear $2000 because it sounds so good.

Dave, who has since substituted a 20-foot cable since that's what needed from his audio system to his most comfortable chair

Nothing wrong with that!  I am considering the same, if my husband does not follow through on his promise to build a little shelf above my end of the reclining sofa.

That is a beautiful Golden, BTW.

The Elear honestly gives the he1k ver.1 a run for its money imo. The Utopia is on another level entirely. Still a massive he-500 fan. With th-600 pads and grill mod they performed really well for what they cost.

Iraq, Syria, public transportation... Seriously, it just made sense to protect them from the elements when in transport. They rarely leave home, though. Audeze provides similar cases for its LCD series.

Has anyone tried the Audeze travel case with the Utopia to see if it will fit?

Based on the LCD-X, I don't think they'd fit. I'm not in a position to test right now, but the resting shape of the two headphones is different. The X's cups come together and in fact there's a foam piece that comes with them the X that's placed between the cups to hold the shape when they are put in the case. The Utopia is wider while at rest and I don't think it'll fit in the LCD-X's case.

Sonic Guild recommended this case which I purchased - EXCELLENT! Holds the Utopia with the stock cable attached

@timelord, Onlychild and Buzzlulu, thanks. I feel more comfortable with the protection of the pelican case than the Sonic Guild, but the pelican is just a very big case.

I have the Utopia,Elear and HE1000 v2.....I think the Elear is the best HP for 1000 dollars...I think the Utopia is a fair bit better than the HE1000 but the HE1000 v2 holds it own with the Utopia IMHO

Agree with your statements. It does hold it down, however it depends on preference too. You seem to enjoy both spectrum. Engaging sound and relaxed sound. I preferred the V2 over the original, but it still sounds too relaxed. I listen to music for engagement. Some listen to it more for relaxation. It's like a HD600 vs HD650 topic.

I found that the Utopia fit in my about three year old LCD-3F case if you slightly bend the headband (its easily bendable), but I'm not sure that its good for the Utopia to do so.

I have not bothered to try my LCD-4 case as it now holds my LCD-4 most of the time!!!!

I would like my utopias to fit a little tighter. Anyone know if it's ok to bend/compress the headband? If not, is there a safe way for the headphone to fit a little tighter?

Hi any Gsx mk2 user with utopia here? I saw a reply long ago saying that low gain is more suitable for utopia , and seems like I found out the same. Any thoughts or comments? I'm using emm labs dac2x for dac. Thank you.
