Still hoping that with some burn in the treble will be tamed a bit. Just got them today

You should burn in at light levels for at least 200 hours to reach full voice and get that peakyness gone

How warm does the Z1R sound compared to the Elear?

There is a pretty obvious warmth difference really between the Z1R v Elear. The Z1R would be considered warm but I might say the Elear is half the warmth of the Z1R

pending on the cable used, I have Moon Audio Silver Dragon, and the top end is just a little smoother, compared to the Elear. Piano has more "balls" authority, The Elears bring out more micro and macro details but the Z1R bass is at least 2 octaves lower without strain. Just my observations.

Some people say they are. They can get harsh to me with the volume up however.
The Elear is warm, not overly so but certainly on the warm side.
They do have a treble peak at 10k though, so people who are sensitive to peaks in that region tend do find them brighter and sometimes harsh.
Personally I have the same issue with headphones with a peak in the 7k region. For example the CA Lyra II, which most people find rather warm and smooth, has a 7k-region peak that makes them a little harsh to me.

Can Elear be considered end-game headphone without any further upgrade for at least few years? I am thinking of getting one.
no such thing

that depends on so many personal factors, it's impossible for anyone else to answer but yourself
except for the wife in some cases

That’s an impossible question to answer in a thread filled with strangers, each with their own sonic priorities, biases, different ancillary equipment and, perhaps most significantly, financial means.

All you can do is read the reviews from sources you trust and respect and, if possible, give them a test drive at a local Audio retailer (or online dealer that allows returns) to see if they press all of your musical pleasure buttons.

For me, they are a fantastic and very noticeable sonic upgrade to what I had been previously using as my reference (Senn HD700), and given the current realities of my income level, end game... Until I make more money, or win the lottery.

It will be my first purchase of headphone. Saw a used pair for around $600. Will have to check the shop and demo.

Well, that’s an impressive level to start at. I bought mine as an open-box pair online from Moon Audio for $549. They are the only outlet authorized by Focal to sell open- box, as new Elears. Definitely check and see if they still have any left in stock.

I've a Dangerous Music Source incoming this week to take over from the Mojo on desktop DAC & amp duties. Will run some comparisons once it arrives
