My suggestion for a headphone with good bass that takes EQ well are the HE560 or an old HE400 that is modded, just need to select an amp that pairs well with these. The Elears sound amazing except I'm really disappointed I can't EQ the bass up more than a little bit before the driver starts popping. I bought these phones because they were recommended for my taste in something warm with good bass and although the bass is really good, I want something that's going to get me close to that home theater experience of having a sub. Everything else is perfect. Damn shame.
Anyone know of a phone that's as good as the Elear but can handle cranking up the bass?

So my Elear's headband is creaking at the slightest movement of my head (forehead movement or ear movement, simple movement basically). It gets to the point of really really annoying because the sound of the creaking amplifies while wearing them on the head. So i insert some sort like soft fabric material that is typically used to wrap new laptops inside their boxes, cut small area and slide it a little bit into the gap between the headband and the metal hinge as shown in the picture (both left and right). Still creaking while physically moving the headphones using hands, but no more creaking while wearing them on the head.

Just curious, is there any reason you haven’t contacted your dealer to have the issue addressed? As a note related to this topic, one of our customers applied soap to the yoke and it permanently stopped the noise.

oh. i never thought of that. I thought almost every focal elears have this headband creaking issues judging by the reviews online (the loudness of the creaking is of course varying from one unit to another) and I thought maybe the issue is not 'too serious' to warrant a replacement from Focal since everyone has it... or is it not?Just curious, is there any reason you haven’t contacted your dealer to have the issue addressed?

I just went back and read the notes in the customers file. He used a bar of ivory soap on the aluminum and spread it lightly with a microfiber cloth. He’s reported no noises since and appears to be very happy with them now.
Contacting your dealer is in my opinion a good idea. If they are like us and keep files on all customer issues than if the problem persists we have support documentation making warranty much easier to process

Mine don't squeek while they're on my head... sure some rattling when I move them around in my hands, but dead quiet once they're on my head.

well, when i first purchased the elears, they did not creak too. but then they gradually developed the creaking noise and yeah.. had to do something about it. but other than the creaking noise, focal's build quality is excellent

I Didn’t know about this discussion, I was listening to this track, war anthem and had the same issue with focal utopia. I’m using 96k files and violectric 281 balances. But hey, I checked and al my headphones did the cracking thing... hd 800, hd 650 and Audeze lcd2... Audeze had the minimum crack. How did you get your Elear replaced? I contacted Focal but they say I need to deal with Adorama.
Só o was chatting with some folks in the utopia thread, and in my opinion, and with my system, the problem is the track. The cracking was bilateral and only during the canon firings sounds.
I saw some people preatty piss of with focal. But I think you should take it easy because all my headphones did the cracking. I never experienced this in others tracks

Now that is interesting. I wonder if some of it is down to the amp also. Neither my B&W P7 or my HD650 crack only the Elear on that track, first thing I checked after making the discovery.
I can get them to clip but only at very high dangerous levels. The second pair of Elear were better, it took more drive to them to crack.
I'm happy with this pair, sounding great!
Thats out of my Marantz PM7005.
I've a Dangerous Music Source incoming this week to take over from the Mojo on desktop DAC & amp duties. Will run some comparisons once it arrives

FOSTEX TH-900 MK2. And they best the Elears in pretty much everything.
I read the Fostex TH-900's are bright. It's a shame because everyone says they pretty much have the best bass. I have sensitive ears though so I need something dark that also has heavy bass.
Someone on youtube suggested the Sony Z1R. Anyone got experience with those?

Yes, that's correct, they're bright indeed. But I don't think they're much brighter than the Elears, just more resolving, with better separation and soundstage.I read the Fostex TH-900's are bright. Still hoping that with some burn in the treble will be tamed a bit. Just got them todayYes, that's correct, they're bright indeed. But I don't think they're much brighter than the Elears, just more resolving, with better separation and soundstage.
