Also, does anyone know why Spiral Ear is so particular about closed-mouth ear impressions? What happens if I sent in one done open-mouth which is the norm?

5 pieces of thin silicone tubes can collapse if you close your mouth while listening to music
Wonder what happens if I sing along

If you send a closed mouth mold, there is probably nothing extra ...
If you open your mouth, then maybee you will be slightly separated from the inner mold when you close it and it will come in contact ... but silicone always has better isolation properties than acrylic, so you do not have to keep it from leaks.
Silicone elastic material, greater "isolation tolerance" in such cases.
I have a silicone custom tip on my U18 nozzle and get better isolation than my other full acrylic CIEM

I always thought that Nic would have like, a massive sale to get rid of his not-so-favourite CIEMs once he's done, except the review samples. Realistically, I don't like to do too many shootouts or a/bs bcos I often end up selling the loser.
I initially thought so too, as it must have been a huge investment, but then a while back he was looking to buy his dad CIEMs. His dad had apparently been eyeing Nic's mountain of (C)IEMs but he couldn't part with any because they were his "babies". :D

I had to part with the majority of mine to continue to write reviews or fund my habit, it has been quite costly. Obviously, if you given review samples you can't part with those but I have never written for another blog or website, only for myself and Head-Fi.

It's a lot better sound than the stock tip.
I'll write about the tips effect on sound, but I think I figured why I heard other sound signature than Nic in her test.

would be interesting to see a FR comparison:thinking:

this tip changes so many parameters:
1. tube length
2. diameter
3. angle

The only way you'd get anything close to an accurate reading is if the measuring apparatus was also custom molded to fit those tips perfectly.

i think as long as the putty doesn't squish the tip tube diameter its should give reasonable results

Not if the point is to compare them to normal tips. The sonic benefits of custom is due to the God Seal more than anything else.
