I feel this thread needs more TOTL chat, thanks @davidmolliere for the EXT impressions! I received my X and added some impressions on Rockwells, but it deserves to be here too - the best tribrid out there I'd say. Such a well tuned IEM with crazy technicalities despite its minor faults - can't have it all though in an IEM!

My X arrived earlier today and been enjoying listening to it ever since!!

I guess it's easier for me to start with the negatives -

- timbre is not that accurate. It pulls everything a bit too ethereal and lacks body in the lower mids. It lacks the rightness that Traillii has, especially on Classical tracks. It's not they bad however, and it works remarkably well within ita tuning. I don't worry about it and it doesn't crazily bother me either.

- If you like lower mids this iem isn't for you ahem @Rockwell75  - it is lacking in favour of upper mids. But funnily enough, male vocals are really good, the distance is perfect and not recessed or too thin. Again points to such good tuning.

Errr and that's all the negatives! Otherwise these are totl/best in pretty much all other categories (apart from coherency where Traillii is a shade better). Crazy technicalities, incredible upper mids and treble and highly satisfying soundstage (best I've ever heard. Though it doesn't quite have Traillii's ability to separate each instrument so well).

I'm very happy despite the too long a wait. As a two iem setup, this and Traillii are as good as it gets for me, wiping the floor with odin and Z1R. But it does come at quite a significant cost increase.

Oh and shout out to dx300MAX SS for bring such a great DAP!

Received an Iliad today. I love how it looks and sounds with the Thummim. The Thummim is a special IEM. It does not work well with everything, but with some genres it is magical. I particularly enjoy it with smooth jazz.

Edit: when I close my eyes it's as if I'm listening to over ear headphones. Very impressive, provided you get a good fit. Good old Xelastecs work best for these, for me. Better than the Crystals.

So... I have plugged the Penon Totem as the stock cable exhibits cutoffs of both channels when it's not perfectly straight... probably a soldering issue I'll exchange it

Bottom line, Totem makes the EXT smoother and fuller, consistent with many impressions I have read and that's interesting as it's a cable I use often with the Elysium.
You loose nothing in terms of power down low, mids are fuller and thicker and up top it's just as extended but a bit less intense.
I think cable rolling will prove interesting with the EXT... look forward to trying out the PlusSound X8 Tri Copper when it arrives.

Those babies are so engaging whichever cable you plug :)
Please do share your impressions of its synergy with the tri copper when it arrives :) thank you in advance

I love that cable. I got one and I pair it with my Traillii

Hi MatW,

for a pairing with Thummim you prefer the Iliad over the Plato, which Thummim was equipped with?

It sounds great with the Plato too. I prefer the look and feel of the Iliad.

If anyone is interested in the Plato, let me know. It was completely refurbished recently by Eletech, whereby they replaced some hardware. It is as good as new. It has MMR on the splitter because it came with the Thummim. If no one wants it I'll probably pair it with the LX.

I’m having a hard time adjusting to the EVO. I keep wanting to hear my LX but with more detailed bass. What I seem to be hearing is exaggerated kick drum only and mids and highs that are a total mess. I have rolled all my tips and cables and have settled on the genesis and symbio peel for seal. After listening to the EVO, I find the Odin smooth, balanced and with accurate bass. I am an EE fan and hope long burn in will help as it did with Odin. Anyone else hearing this?

So... I received FiiO M17 and let me tell you : I was SHOCKED at how good it sounds...This is one of the very few times in this hobby that gear exceeds my expectations big time and it's a real shock how good the EXT sound when properly powered... OH MY GOD! Mind blown...

I already noticed when I plugged the EXT to the Zen Can out of the RS6 but out of M17 is a different ball game altogether... the stage well... Let me say this : EXT almost sounds like headphones, the gap with a "regular" DAP is just insane... this is particularly remarkable in terms of height and depth. I have a hard time wrapping my head around such a big difference.

Contrary to the DX220 Max I owned for a while, there is no harshness on M17 this one is a keeper... background is pitch black and the dynamic range is outstanding... and in fact I don't think I'll want to listen to anything else after that... "superDAPs" like Max and this are what I need since my usage is mostly at home anyway. The EXT has reached another planefield. M17 + EXT is what I dreamed of in terms of endgame combo (I know there isn't such a thing but what a rush and big smile on my face right now)...

Android 10 at long last :)

I even noticed it support Wifi6 I have at home
Nice! So the UI is pretty responsive then? I'm spoiled with R8, can never go back to DAPs with slow UI.

Yes same SoC Snapdragon 660 so fast like R8 (which I owned a long while), DX300 or RS6.
Nice big screen too at 6".

Wifi6 for someone like me who enjoys streaming might not seem like much but it's fantastic upgrade...
