Title says it. I'm ready to dive into my first set of open back headphones. I'm really only particularly interested in these two. Got a budget of around $300 (including shipping).

What type of the music you listen to? and What's the source of your music (computer? smartphone? do you have a headphone amplifier?)
 
Remind you that you want DT990 32ohm, not 250 or 600 ohm if you do not have a headphone amplifier.

Sorry! I currently use ath-m50 and dt770 pro through a Fiio E07k. I'll mostly be coming out of a MacBook Pro into the amp. I'll also occasionally use a Fiio E11 from an ipod if away from the E07k

You already have DT770. I say go safe route and grab DT990. You can go either 250 ohm or 32 ohm, but don't go for 600 ohm version because your amps will suffer from lack of power.
 
It's a huge upgrade from DT770 btw.
 
 
AD900x is not a bad can, but the coloration at mid can be undoing.
