Hi there, I'm new here. Out of curiosity I have some question,

1) I'm using a root X7 with Tidal, so does rooting the X7 cause the X7 to bypass the ES9018S dac, so the audio is process by some internal low quality dac maybe? Is this true for FW3.3.0?

2) I read somewhere, it says that rooting X7 also cause the player to not able to playback at the highest quality for example 192khz, 24bit sample rate due to how Android audio driver is coded. Is this true for FW3.3.0 or does that happen only on FW2.0? Found the link

My understanding is that X7's ESS DAC cannot be bypassed as there is no other DAC, so even though you're using root with it, you should be enjoying its full audio quality!

I agree! The FIIO X7 / AM3 balanced is my go-to DAP and feel it a great match for my 64 Audio A12 CIEM's.

A couple of days ago I did a A/B comparison between my X7 and X5 3rd (bal) and liked X7 better (to match volume I had to dial +8 clicks on X5), so I'm curious about X7 2nd specs and mostly about DAC since the amp section seems to be compatible...

I know very little about AK DAPs so I cannot say, never touched one before. I only know that X7 was already one of my dream DAPs, if they managed to include a 2xMicroSD slot on their next version, it will be a killer device!

I believe the A&K Ultima uses two AKM 4497 DACs -- same as my Cowon Plenue 2. Seems unlikely that Fiio will use DAC from same family as X5iii for the X7mkII. More likely a Sabre 9028/38 to create clear product differentiation.

I really like the sound from the Sabre 9018. An upgrade on that family, dual slot and a volume wheel... that would be nice...

I got a chance to get the X7 with the 3 amps and 2 cases for about $300. I am very tempted to pull the trigger at that price.

Good price but if you plan on streaming Tidal don't bother. The X7 has issues streaming and this includes offline content as well.

wait for mkii, u can hunt down amp modules though as they work with mkii as well
