Thanks Hawaiibadboy.

Really looks to meet all my "Wants" but I don't want to use with external DAC/AMP so just hoping I get no noticeable hiss with my Shure SE846's. I do have a 70 Ohm audio grade attenuator but prefer not to use it.

At least with AMP3 I can return without too much issue other than covering postage.  Fingers crossed as I'm not replacing my SE846'S !

You don't happen to have any SE846's to try do you ?

Honestly, check out the iFi IEMatch. At the risk of sounding like a shill, it is very good and should alleviate a hissing issue. As you have SE846's, it's a physically small, inexpensive, and worthy investment.

Fiio replied to my question about hiss.  They told me the X5 3 does hiss and it is noticeable.  I notice hiss with my Shure SE846 on most sources I have. I do not have an X5 3, but I have an original X5 and hiss is kind of there, but not bad.  It is tolerable when music is playing and not too bad when no music is playing.  I have figured out that my tinnitus is being percieved as hiss.  Too many rock concerts without earplugs.  Always where them now.  I could be wrong, but I think I read somewhere in this thread that the X5 3 has louder hiss. It really depends on how sensitive you are to hiss.  I have read the SE846 has been called a hiss monster to some degree.  I am hoping this will be fixed soon on the X5 3, but I am looking at other daps right now for when I am actually ready to purchase a dap.

Cheers

Was going to cancel my pre-order based on the hiss comments but might as well try it out and just stand the £8 recorded to return if its too bad. I had to return the original Oppo HA2 because hiss was so bad.  Never had hiss with iPhones; Samsung S6/S7; Dragonfly Red or Mojo. Very slightly with a ZX2.

I just love the design/spec/price of this FIIO but don't want to stack with my Mojo. Can use a cheap/smaller Sony Z5 Compact phone if I wanted to do that.

I can also try it with my 70 Ohm small attenuator but would loose headset remote control.

Reading a review about iFi match or something like this. It's reduce hiss excellently and less effect on sound.

Does the Ifi Match stick out far from the headphone jack?  I like to put my daps in my pocket of my jeans or in my cehst pocket of my flannel shirts.  I wear not skinny jeans, but not loose fitting jeans most of the time.  Would this cause the Ifi Match to protrude from my pocket if my shirt pocket is secured or anything?  I would rather not spend DPX1A money if I don't have to.  I cannot afford it right now so something like the X5 3 is better for my wallet.  Where could I purchase the ifi match and how much does it sell for?  I live in a rural area North of Sacramento California by 2 hours so I have no places to buy stuff in store that sell this kind of gear.

Thank you

FIIO replied above that it does support inline controls (it obviously doesn't in my photo above connected to the DFR). Not such an issue as the X5III has proper physical playback controls anyway.

Just read up on the iFi AUDIO iEMatch and checked out a few reviews and sounds perfect, thanks for the "heads-up".

I am not sure if your mic and remote on your cable will work with the X5 3.  It does not work with my original X5.  I hope for some clarification on this as well,

any headphone with CTIA jack should be work fine in X5-3, but the volume control may not works in most MFi headphones.

@FiiO you really put all other brands that charge tons on money for their daps to shame

thanks for all the amazing work you do and the way you price your daps to enable many to get their hands on an amazing dap so they will not feel like left outs

Really Fiio is the only company that is keeping things real

You have you answer below. The sound has just seemed to open up more with excellent separation and has added a fuller body to the music overall. However, i would suggest you try it out before making any such decisions. To each their aural pleasures.

Yes i do agree. The A5 is doing a great job and the X5III an even better job! I have no experience of the X7 so couldn't comment, however, have read a few comparisons.

@JamesFiiO @FiiO I have noticed that when in pure music mode, if the DAP is paused for more than 10 - 15 mins it freezes up and needs a restart of the pure music mode. Would you be kind enough and ask your engineers to look into this too. @jmills8 is also facing the same issue.

Thanks. The A5 compliments the X5III brilliantly!!

Dear superuser1,

We failed to reproduce this issue in our X5III with FW1.1.0, maybe you can try the new firmware to see whether the issue stays?

I am downloading the new FW and will get back to you after testing extensively with FW 1.1.0. Thanks for all your hard work.
