[FiiO M6] Portable High-Resolution Lossless Music Player,Embracing A Wireless Future

How much battery are you guys getting?
I left mine running for a few hours playing a mix of MP3 and FLAC using Fiio music, with 16 ohm iems plugged in, volume at about 30, and screen off. Wifi and Blutooth also off. It used about 7% per hour, so I think Fiio's claims of 13 hours using headphones are about right, under certain conditions.

However, the way that I, and probably most other people use the device, it won't do anything like 13 hours. If I'm downloading stuff on Tidal whilst listening and browsing, then the battery goes down at more than twice the rate as "normal"

Last night I used the M6 offline, playing Tidal "Premium" quality downloaded music, connected to my HI Fi using line out and lost 15% in one hour.

It could be argued that the battery life isn't great, but it is a small device with a small battery, and the upside is that it doesn't take long to charge.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the Fiio music player app on the M6 quite frustrating in some regards? I just got my M6 about a week ago so it is possible I just haven't figured out how to use it yet, but there are a few features that seem inexplicably missing. For example, as far as I can tell, you can't play an album (maybe a playlist either? I haven't tried yet) then have the player just stop after all songs have played - it either keeps playing the album on repeat or moves on to the next folder. Sometimes I just want to hear an album once and nothing after. Also, maybe I'm super weird but I like to keep track of play counts/stats and this player seems to be horrible for that. From what I can tell it just lists the most listened to songs without showing actual numbers, plus if you listen to a song for 5 seconds and skip it, the player still counts that as a listen, which is ridiculous to me. Does anyone else find this frustrating or does everyone just stream now and streaming apps are much better at keeping stats therefore making my issues irrelevant (I don't stream)?
Dear friend,

1. You could try to turn off the play through folders function from settings menu in FiiO Music APP and switch the play mode to sequential for help.
2. We will report your feedback to the engineer and assess about adding the actual times of most listened files.

Best regards

Got the M6 a week ago and I need to update the firmware and troubleshoot further. I really like the look of the screen and the general features, but the UI is a bit clunky to navigate and some of the bugs I've encountered are really frustrating. At this point my biggest concerns are:

- When playing all of my music on shuffle the player stops playing after every song; when one song finishes it goes to the next and immediately pauses. When I set the playback to gapless the player will play a half a second of the second song before pausing. In all cases I have to hit the play button to keep going. This is bizarre and frustrating to say the least.

- When playing music to an external DAC the auto power down still occurs as if no music is playing. For example if the auto idle power down or sleep is set to 10 minutes, the player will always shut down exactly 10 minutes after you start playing music through an external DAC. Due to this I had to disable all auto sleep/power functions.

- The UI could use some additional gestures to quickly navigate. It would be nice if swiping right would go back a screen no matter where you are, and a long hold on the screen should take you back to the home or music menu. It would also be nice to be able to reprogram the 3 physical buttons with long press or double/triple click functions.

Other than those issues the player seems nice. For the price it is feature loaded and the sound quality is decent. For now I'm going to keep troubleshooting, and if the first 2 issues above aren't resolved I'll stick with other DAPs that are a little more stable. I'll keep checking back on this DAP with each firmware update to see if it's improved though, as it has a lot of potential to be fantastic for the price.
Dear friend,

Please try to do a factory restore first.
Do you mean the idle poweroff function? We will report to the engineer about your feedback/suggestions and check about that.

Best regards

@FiiO can we get saved EQ profiles for different headphones? This is my favorite feature of the Pioneer XDP-300R music player app
Dear friend,

You could try to reset the preset EQ for help. But you could not rename the EQ.

Best regards

I agree with the Fiio app. It's pretty grim. Better than it used to be, lol. It was REALLY bad a couple of years ago, lol.

For me the broken global search option is the killer. I can live with clunkiness but uselessness, less so

PLEASE FIX IT @FiiO - namely global search does not display albums appertaining to search input COME ON FIX IT PLEASE!!!! We search for a band we want to see their albums... period!!!!!!! It's just a no brainer.
Dear friend,

We have reported to the engineer about that. They will try to fix this in later firmware update.

Best regards

Hi,

My request was actually if we could save a different EQ for each headphone (and ability to rename). It doesn't seem like it would be a hard thing to add but then again, not many players have this ability either. Just seems kind of ridiculous not to have this ability in the world of gigabyte/terrabyte storage not having ability to save a < 1kb text file with EQ settings.

thanks. I live in hope, but I don't expect it. The last update for the X7ii only modified the display of the same results of the search which is in the same broken state as the for the app for M6/9, so clearly Fiio thinks it has fixed the search issue and that the actual functionality works just fine. :frowning2:

@greenflash

Did you say you'd managed to get any 3rd party players to work (properly) with the M6?

How about the other Fiio app (the one bundled with the X7ii, which they've just updated)?

I would guess this should work well with the M6, it must share most of the same code? AFAI can tell, it's very similar in function, just differs in display? It's a much better interface than the one with the M6 and designed for screens with the same res.

It would go a long way to overcoming the shortcomings of the M6 if this APK was able to work with it.

How about sharing some of your work with other users? :)

Its a smartphone size (length and width) but it's over twice as thick as my current smartphone. It's like carrying three phones in your pocket at once if you walked around with the DAP and phone! Yay to that!

Maybe the next new DAP will be the size of a tablet and it can double as an e-reader. :) Makes me wonder where Fiio will go size wise on the next top end DAP? If the M11 doesn't sell well hopefully they will go back to a more portable size, not that it will likely be in my price range.

Just when I think I have the sort logic figured out it baffles me again. Almost like it sorts first by artist, and then only sorts by the first 3 letters of the track name and then it seems random on the remaining letters in the track at that point. When did this become such a complicated thing to get right?

I know :frowning2: - search is such a basic function for any player, and it's so fundamentally broken on the fiio apps, that i keep going back to try it out again, thinking I'm missing something, but no... it's always the same conclusion. It just is not fit for purpose.

OOPS... I retract all I said... @FiiO @fish1050

I have been corrected in the X7ii forum...

the global search DOES show albums appertaining to artists corresponding to an input in the search field. I simply was not going deep enough in the albums stage (pic 3 below) as previously this was the same, but just played all 126 tracks.

Woohoo!!! I hope this gets updated to the Fiio M6 M7 and m9 apps soon also.

Here's the logic on the X7ii in sequence...
