With it’s features, specs etc is it that unreasonable to have it priced in the same bracket as the cayin n6ii (with swappable motherboards) and kann cube (a beast for fuller sized headphones)?

Personally I felt the price is fair given totl components are used. To me the biggest selling point is the adoption of the AKM 4499esq DAC. I just love this dac on my SP2K. I personally like the volume control on my WM1Z Sony Walkman series with buttons-more safe. Output power is fair (800 mw at 32 ohm balance) compared to SP2K (1130 mw at 32 Ohm) but better than WM1A/Z. Battery reserve is good. The bottom line is the sound. If the sound can match the WM1A, then it will be a success. I particularly like the 2.5 + 4.4 balance outputs, wish AK will do that. Can wait to hear this dap.

I think you are getting the idea wrong.

DSD is never superior to PCM. The question is....how is the algorithms? How is it DSP ?

Yeah the specs on this page (https://velvetsound.akm.com/global/en/products/home-audio/ak4499eq/) say power consumption is 667 mW for AK4499, close to double the power compared to the previous flagship AK4497 (at 346 mW). Huge power draw with two of them, not to mention the extra power required for the high output amp stage. I’m kinda surprised the battery life is stated as that high, be interesting to see how it works out with real world use.

I am interested in heat dissipation too
