Considering how my AS-2 proto's have the same driver, man, that driver is capable of making your entire body tremble. Was playing around with my ZO2 earlier and it sounded both wonderful and bottomless

I've officially tried every tip i own that will fit the ASG-1. I guess there's nothing for it, but to continue the burn-in.

I normally just use DnB for burn in, but i was just actually listening to it. I haven't tried the atrio but i doubt anything gets even close to these huge drivers.

~40 hours burn in or something like that.

What is really bugging me is that everyone described these as mid phones, which i deduced to be great for vocals.
I can't listen to any of my favorite vocal songs with my ASG-1s (yet), without missing the warmth and clarity of the voice. I'm beginning to understand the term "shouty", but the vocals are distant and muffled as well.

I know i should resist comparing them to my JH5s as it may not be a fair comparison,
This old Norah Jones song, for example

first with the ASG-1s which aren't bad, and have the jazzy bass to sweeten up the music. Then the JH5s where the voice was crystal clear, warm, smooth, and you can hear the emotion; nothing is done wrong at all.
It's funny because on the ASG everything else sounds good, but It's Norah Jones. The vocals aren't supposed to be the afterthought!

Your pair are not meant to be shouty, that's the original version that some people found shouty. Also shouty is not distant but extremely forward and fairly close with the originals.

I'm just going to say that regardless of whether I go for the ASG 1 (1.2) now or wait on the AS or ASG-2 I'm pretty excited.  At this point, I just want to hear them for myself since that's what this is all about anyways, right?

I can second that.....the chrome covers look sick. I keep a microfiber cloth with me to clean my fingerprints off them once i put them in and always get a few comments. I'd tell you what they said, but I had AS-2's in my ear, I was kinda busy....

Are you allowed to make a photo of the AS-2? Would really like to see the chrome cover on real photo.

Your ASGs are not shouty.  The "shoutyness" everyone was talking about was the forward midrange that created a sweet signature as a whole.  A lot of people describe sweet signatures as AM-radio like; I guess shouty has joined this as well.  That said, the improved bass response has really weined these away from anything near shouty.  Shouty really referred to the midrange resonance spike (noteably at the 1.2 or 2 kHz region) that was slightly a bit big, but nothing really as bad as people put in (in my opinion; I didn't find it harsh, shouty, etc).

I would call the vocals good on the ASG-1, not great or amazing though (again, comparing to a wide range of headphones that can out it in dynamic range).  Nothing really special like before (although the spike could have been reduced maybe 2 dB before to suit everyone).

Well said :)
I'd say the vocals are great for the price, given that I bought it at 20% off.

Anyway you really really look like one of my friend (from your avatar).

I'm waiting for the ASG-2.  Because I know that as soon as it comes out, I'll want it even if I have the 1.2.

My avatar currently is a real picture of the chrome plates and then the original post of me telling everyone what I got, which is here: LINK

EDIT:

You really can't fully appreciate the look of the chrome plates till you see it in person. It's not overdone and so not everyone notices it, but when they do they tend to make a comment

I honestly am having a hard time getting to "good". I was just listening to my JVC FX-101... they're good.

Perhaps shouty isn't the right term then. It's hard to describe. Its as though there's a ton of impact without the actual volume, like my eardrum is vibrating.

I don't know what to say. Normally if i don't like a pair of phones, that's it. I move on to the next thing. But I honestly enjoy some aspects of these phones quite a lot, which is why i'm finding them so frustrating.
I honestly can't see how it can have such good bass, such a developed and intimate sound stage, so much detail in the low end and lower mid-range, and yet fall flat with the lower high-range and vocals. It's a really close thing too.

I think the problem you have is with the signature. Again, give the iphone treble booster eq another try. When you apply it, you have to raise the volume for the actual boost to take effect.
