Feliks Audio ENVY

Hey big hair guy…the only person on planet earth whose hair is visible from space. You must also consider the driver tubes to be used with the power tubes and also the phones you will use and your personal preferences. Personally, in terms of encyclopaedic levels of knowledge, I’d pm @Doug2507 in the land of the Haggis and ask him for recommended pairings of driver and power tubes. You’re very welcome and the invoice for my consultancy services is already in the postal network.
:smile_phones: Nice to see a familiar name. I had heard that the power tubes impact the sound more than the driver tubes so I was just going to focus on those for now. Or would it be better to purchase both together?

Hello all. I'm sure this question has been asked before, so I apologize if it is annoying to hear this again, but this thread is simply too long for me to dig through. I have just purchased an Envy PE and am curious about tube rolling. I know Elrogs and WE300B's are the most commonly talked about tubes for Envy, but I don't know much about how they compare. Could someone who has heard them both give a brief summary, or link where this was talked about previously in the thread? I am also open to any other tube recommendations, these are just the two I have heard about the most.
Search for my name in this thread and you'll find a lot of comparisons, also to Takatsukis, Emission Labs EML XLS (which i can highly recommend) etc..
TLDR: WE's are Full Music upgrades, warm, wet, musical. Elrog are very technical with a more "unimpressive / unremarkable" midrange but very extended treble & bass.
You should also upgrade the 6SN7's.

Edit:
For example here i talk about the Takas.
Here are WE's versus FM's.
In my link in the signature (custom Envy) is basically Elrog TM's vs normal Elrog ER's.
Here are some 6SN7's. My favourite pairs: NOS: Brimar CV1988. Melz1578, TungSols. New Production: PSVane Globes (not pictured), Electro Harmonix Gold.
Here is another TLDR.
Here is more about the Takas.
Here is more about Elrog ER's versus TM's.
Here is more about the EML XLS.

I love my WEs. Might buy Elrogs at some point, but can highly recommend starting with the WEs.

Just received a pair of Brimar's and look forward to test how these perform against my Sylvania's :)

Just received a pair of Brimmar's and look forward to test how these perform against my Sylvana's :)
How are you liking the Sylvania’s? They add a little sparkle to the WE’s IMO. I have the Brimar CV1988 in with Elrog ER300B now…another good pairing.

Loving the MU2?

I don’t think you need to buy both together. It’s good to understand what each of the different power tubes does in terms of your preferences and then you can tune the sound further by selecting the driver tubes that pair best with your chosen power tubes.

That's my Envy back in the UK after the guys sorted out an issue with the wood, looking quite nice! Service from Feliks is exceptional, really nice to have that comfort knowing any problems and it's not an issue getting sorted. Really like this company, both service and product!

What was the issue with the wood?

That is exactly what I’m doing and keeping the Bliss for. It’s a great preamp (akin to Serene) and essential for me to have remote control over volume

With 1266 I keep Envy on high gain and volume at 1-2 o’clock, so past noon. Bliss is roughly -35 to -25db on average. Straight May to Envy is unusable for me

When I turn the Envy off I turn it down of course not to have the loud pop in the headphones
god that look good...

It unfortunately split at the side after just a few hours use, I'm guessing just an inherent defect in the wood and possibly brought to light by the heat from the transformers. All taken care of by Elise / Feliks and back to good as new. Think I may even like the finish on this one better tbh buts that's neither a here nor there, it's the sound that counts most for me. Really looking forward to getting home from work end of next week, chucking in my go to tubes and kicking back with Immanis with a few glasses of vino. 😎

Excited to kick off my tube rolling experiments with my Feliks envy. Had some discussions with some great souls here in PM and planning to buy western electric 300b from tubesrs website. As driver tubes eyeing on getting Melz 1578. My chain is Mola Mola Tambaqui->Feliks Audio envy performance with stock tubes->Raal Immanis. All kinds of inputs and suggestions are welcome. Also would like to know from where it is suggested buying authentic tubes.
So upon further research and as I stumbled upon a pretty decent deal for Brimar 1988 CV, I am starting it off with tube rolling with Brimars and see the difference in sonic signature. Taking it slow and steady not rushing it. Will update here. Cheers!!!

Got also new Deyan's wooden 12au7 adapters. He matched really well the wood of my Envy (walnut).
For me, starting to roll 12au7 tubes for first time.

So I've been testing Envy AE on med and high gain with Immanis and my setup in my signature. Its abundantly clear that it's better on Medium gain. For some reason high gain accentuates the treble harshness of immanis and has less mid bass than medium gain. Someone explain, Medium gain is a much better listen. I'm using the 32ohm unit.

Is it ok to change gain from med to high while music is playing? I've never done it, I've always paused but I was curious. I feel like switching back and forth like that while music is playing would make the change even more apparent.
