I'm using an ES100 so it's 2.5 or bust for me. Would like a right angle connector too, but it seems like 2-pin + 2.5mm is rare enough already...

Over thing making me mad is that DAP makers are starting to have higher end models be 4.4mm and lower end 2.5mm.

It sort of makes sense when there are space constraints, but 4.4mm should just be the future.

Everyone just needs to adopt it and stick with it or I'm going to overflow with cables.

Is there... A reason? Aside from durability? Seems to me like given identical performance you should just use the smaller one.

You can just use an adapter - either 2.5mm balances female to 4.4mm male or vice versa.

That's a pain and cable purists will hate it. It's never a "good" thing to add an extra connection. 4.4 is larger, sturdier, has a 5th pole for ground, more contact area, less possibility for interference...

As we've seen, using adapters can cause problems given manufacturing tolerances too.

Let's just use 4.4 and be done with it, there's really not much reason to not pick one and stay with it.

4.4 makes sense over 2.5, but using both is just silly. 3.5 mm balanced already died, 2.5mm should go too now.

I haven't heard anyone complaining about adapters but YMMV. The issue is that a lot of people nowadays are starting to look for smaller and more portable DAPs which excludes the use of a 4.4 balanced jack and this is where smaller iterations come into play. And 3.5mm balanced hasn't died yet as there is the new 3.5Pro

yeah, my lil baby ES100 only has room for a 2.5, especially since it also has a 3.5 :)

The cowon plenue d2 I had was super tiny as well and had a 2.5mm port.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the 2.5 mm port, it's just too many cabling requirements. 4.4 is worth the Extra space IMO.
