Ever sold an expensive phone because you prefered a cheaper one?

Not directly. The only two headphones I've ever sold were the ER-4S and the Edition 7.

I did eventually replace the Edition 7 with the Edition 9, which is essentially the same pair of headphones with a less fancy box. But that took me about 2 years to get around to doing.

I've also bought several pairs of cheaper IEMs than the ER-4S, but again, not directly to replace them. I only sold them to begin with because I had a pair of UE10-Pro which sounded better and were comfortable to wear, so I had no use for the ER-4S.

I've given away quite a few headphones, some of which I'd like to hear again one day just for fun, like the DT770-Pro and DT990 (old version).

Yes I have. But it needs to be taken into account that my Stax 2020 set was only cheaper than HD650 because I bought it used.

But I sold HD650s (€290) for Stax 2020 set (€260).

I have had a few high end Grados (even RS1), I just prefer the SR60. Makes everything from my Lossless Miles, to my low fi bootlegs sound great. I can't explain it any better than that, I just prefer it.

Started with SR60 worked my way up thru quite a few of the models and finally sold my last high end Grado for the SR60 which I have been content with for awhile now with no interest in going back up.

I just bought a pair of grado 325's as an upgrade from some 60's and i must admit, they sound good...but not that good in difference. And I realized that i dont feel too good about carrying around $300 headphones in my backpack and whatnot. I think cheaper phones offer a sense of security in the fact that if they break, there easily replaced. Like Pangaea^ said, the 60's are good enough for me...atleast now, being a college student 200 bucks is alot

Oh yes. I sold my proline 2500 and recabled proline 750 because I preferred the much cheaper secondhand k500 and the old dt990 I bought for 30 bucks

. Usually, though, if you like the sound sig, you get what you pay for.

I sold some ATH-W5000's, which I'd bought to replace standard K701's. They had some great qualities, dynamics, great looks etc., which definitely surpassed the K701 but I couldn't live with the midrange, which sounded agressive/coloured to me. Thankfully I sold it on quickly and didn't really make a loss.
