Ever sold an expensive phone because you prefered a cheaper one?

Grado GS1000's got dumped in favor of another pair of vintage Stax and HD650's, both considerably cheaper.
And to me the RS-1s were better than the GS1000's.

Then, by all means, get the ATH-AD900s, as they are actually gorgeous.

No, not yet, but it may come up. I bought Sony MDR-V900HD's for $45 on eBay. If I don't like them, back to my PortaPros!

I sold the D2000, because I liked the cheaper DT150 better.
Preferred DT150 also over the much more expensive KH-K1000.

All my current cans are relative cheap, and I'm happy with them

I don't feel the need to upgrade.

I think the problem is that most people who buy the AD700 are looking for the best bang for the buck. When they buy more expensive cans they expect them to sound much better, and the owner is disappointed. Some headphones over a grand will sound much better then the AD700..IE K1000. As good as they are, I don't see them as giant killers, like some do. People who have vast experience with hi end headphones, will be less inclined to marvel at them. Most AD700 owners gush over them cause they don't have a lot of experience with hi end headphones.

Now that I think of it, this also happened with the AKG K27i ($45?) and the Creative EP630 ($28?). The former had a wider stage, stronger bass, etc...but they offered much less isolation, and were painful to wear after an hour. Since then, I've bought several EP630s, but will never buy another K27i, and it's doubtful I'll buy another supraural phone any time soon.

I sold both of my HD600 and HD650 to fund the purchase of AD2000, I was seriously disappointed with it

, and couldn't wait to sell it even I lost almost $200 (I couldn't wait to get it out of my house!) and bought another pair of HD650.

I'm a little curious about AD700/AD900 but if they sound anything like AD2000, forget it.

YES. i find myself liking the Samsung Alias much more than more expensive phones; just goes to show that MSRP$ affects customers' preference...

Wow, I myself was actually looking at the AD2000...What were some characteristics you didn't like about them?

Not yet.

Yep.

Returned the $400 Sony noise-canceling HP's for the vastly better $200 Denons.

After reading comments by those I trust, I sold both my HD600 and HD650 a while back to fund the purchase of the AD2000, here are what I feel about this AT headphone compare to both HD6X0s:

+ really good build quality(except the cable)
+ detail, good midbass
- a little bit brighter/ more fragile than I'd like
- soundstage is smaller with a weird shape, the singer is right in front of you and the left and right of the stage are miles behind the singer
- less bass than I'd like
- upfront but dry, muffle and uninvolving midrange
- clamps tighter than both HD6X0s
- the cable is thin but hard, microphonic with open headphone!

None of the above are major faults, but when they added up, it is a faulted headphone to match my sonic preference. I was so disappointed and I bought another pair of HD650.

Even though I hate AD2000, I'd recommend you should at least try it for yourself, we may not have same preferences.
