ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion

can anyone help me find an adapter to connect the 4 pin vivo balanced cable to chord tt2s XLR 3 pin sockets?

it seems like it might be necessary to get a custom adapter made up, if so, can i get someone to confirm this is the XLR pin wiring configuration (i got this from dans web site for a cable jack):

and this is the cable :
https://www.headamp.com/products/dan-clark-audio-vivo-premium-headphone-cable-for-ether-aeon-models

LEFT:
  • 1 = L+
  • 2 = L- (or ground for single ended cables)
  • 3 = open
  • 4 = open
RIGHT:
  • 1 = R+
  • 2 = R- (or ground for single ended cables)
  • 3 = open
  • 4 = open

I also found this post, but i'm just checking:

so this picture seems to be for the right connector.
Custom made for Hugo TT2

Thank you. Can I ask who made your connector ?
There is a local shop in Jakarta-Indonesia that sell the cable to make that adapter.
But i provide the XLR .
The configuration is provide using Hugo TT2 forum for 4 pin xlr.( i don't remember which pages ).

For Ether 2 , i don't know if useful or not as ether 2 is not to hard to drive.
I am using it for abyss, but i prefer the 6.3mm as it have more transparency.
If i have a jps cable for making that adapter maybe i can comment on the transparency.

thank you, i bought the headphones second hand and they come with this cable, so I'm just trying to find a way to connect it up, i would have preferred single ended too.

interesting dilema then, do i ask the cable guy to terminate the balanced cables in XLR or to a standard headphone jack (i dont even know if thats possible with a balanced cable)?

you can make the 6.3mm to 4pin xlr, or buy from amazon.
Thank you, you may have just saved me a lot of money that I cant particularly afford !
Can anyone recommend a quality version of this connector rather than myself buying blind ?

edit: i cant actually find a female 4 pin xlr adapter to 6.3 or 3.5 mm adapter.... seems getting a custom termination is the only possible approach.

you can reterminate the balanced cable to single ended cable.

And if the cable guy asked me to describe the cable in terms of what goes where, is that information available ?

I think the cable guy should know base on the ohm meter on cable plug ether 2.
Right pin1 R+ pin2 R- ; Left pin1 L+ pin2 L- ; and then he can make 6.3mm base on that, R /L and ground is negative together.

or you can ask Dan here to make sure ?

Dan has provided the XLR wiring details, and the second column shows how to connect it to a single ended adapter.

After an additional 25 hours of listening to the Ether 2s, I have made several edits to my Ether 2 impressions. In brief: I would not recommend pairing the Ether 2 with a Liquid Platinum amp. (changes in italics)
