I meant mastered as in being label as “master” quality in tidal. I know that all are mastered in finished form.

If it was a source issue then it’s every source I have. Maybe the compression is what I’m picking up that I don’t like about it. Definitely not a track that I’d use to evaluate anything high end.

Ahh, I gotcha now. ‘Sorry for severely over-explaining, then. :D Yeah, it could be the compression that’s doing it. Sometimes, compression can be so hard, that the track sounds dull (since everything’s at the same volume) at lower volumes. You pump the volume up to compensate and, before you know it, the entire track is right in your face. Again, that’s just a theory. Maybe you and this particular song just wasn’t meant to be. :p

No worries, I don't mind learning behind the scenes efforts required to master music.

There's also a show called Axpona each year (except this year of course) in Schaumburg, IL where a number of headphone manufacturers come to including Empire Ears. So twice the number of times to spend more cash on this hobby.

Which version of sp2000 (cu/ss) do you guys prefer to odin?
I only have the SS. I haven't really read that there aren't many sonic differences between them.

I wanted to take my analytical cap off and get back to pure pleasure ...

I realize many of you like EDM / Pop in here. The Hero is a fantastically clear and energetic IEM for that Genre. Additionally, it plays female vocals ridiculously well. For those that have the Hero and want to see what I am talking about, play the linked track. The chick Becky Hill has pipes and the Hero really lets you hear her vocals perfectly while feeling the rest of the music.

Does anyone know if CIEMs are tuned differently to account for a better seal? I want to upgrade, but my Zeus' sound muddy with comply tips so I'm worried about being unhappy with something that I can't switch tips on.

Tuning should be the same for custom, but the improved seal/isolation will also mean an increase in bass.

Personally I never found the Zeus muddy, it can be the tips, the player or the cable but I still consider them a great iem, of course everybody has different taste but it’s worth to experiment with different tips and cables.
