Personally, I'd recommend not spending your money on "upgrade" cables, but maybe that's an unpopular opinion around here.

I'd go along with this. I'd assume that the ciem makes would pair an appropriate cable with the different ranges.

I'm not sure I understand. This assumption seems to take for granted that cables meaningfully affect the sound, but also that there's only one cable that synergizes with any given IEM for all potential listeners (and that the manufacturer correctly identifies it every time). How do those coincide?

Abalone faceplate? If so, EE really needs to step up the previews in their designer….

This is absolutely on our list of projects. I do try to post a variety of customizations on our socials so that people can get a better idea of what this stuff actually looks like in real life :)

My Ares ll 4-wire converted to 8-wire just returned. This one has a Psquared 2.5 plug on it. Put it on the new Massdrop Zeus with about 50 hours on it, sounds great. It's a little wilder, maybe a bit less cohesive than the "regular plug" 8-wire on the XR, but the XR also has about 600 hours on it. It's going to take some more time to burn this one in enough to get a better idea as to how it compares, which of course will be quite enjoyable. What I hear now is great separation, a fair amount more upper mid and treble business, great vocals (the most similar between the two) and the good Zeus bass. The upper end is not too hot, there just seems to be more activity there and in the upper mids. Transparency is excellent, as is placement within the sound stage.

Wow, lovely. Just abalone faceplate + clear shell? That may be my next set up.
Yep, abalone faceplates (with gold wings) + clear shell. I've always (well "always", since I recently got back into audio) liked clear shells; I think it's interesting and artistic to look at the "truth" of what the device is, if that makes some kind of corny sense. We hear what's coming from it, but seeing the different kinds of drivers, the crossovers, the wiring—in some sense, that's the "reality" of the device, so it's awesome to see.

The abalone is also great to look at, but the thing that gets me is related to what I said before: it plays with light in an interesting way, and that makes it basically impossible to replicate with just a picture. It's not a static thing; it kind of has to be seen to be properly understood (kinda like vantablack!). I'm super happy with how these came out.

Man that is so nice. I couldn’t get any premium faceplates on my custom Legend X because of the way they had to build it due to my ear shape :frowning2:

aww, that sucks! i guess the advantage of big ears is that they provide a big workspace :p.

but seriously, size-wise, compare to my S8 Freedoms, which aren't tiny:

I auditioned it with the stock cable. I wouldn't say it's lacking, the treble actually sounded amazing from an 'audiophile' perspective - slightly elevated, very clear and natural while never being harsh. It's just that for my personal tastes, I like a lot of treble energy/sparkle and found the Atlas still had a bit more than the LX in this regard. Improving this would make the LX perfect for me.

Try EQ first, pretty sure you will get what you're looking for just doing that. then go to hybrid cables so you don't lose much of the bass. Silver plated (or pure silver) + pure copper.

Thanks! I received your email with the picture and I personally think my Legend X looks really good.

Cool, and where's the picture? :)

They ended up really nice! Really nice contrast. I personally like the black shell.

Well done! I hope you enjoy the sound.

Minor nitpick/concern—on the Pandora case, the bottom half has rubber coating all throughout. On the top piece, there’s rubber on top, but there’s a ring of exposed (smooth, but exposed) metal below that on the circumference:

A small thing, but I definitely don’t want to scuff up these beauties—is this an unfounded concern, or… (maybe I’ll grab some black tape or something and wrap it around…)

I noticed that too. I just put the Legend X in first and coil the cord around it. It won’t be able to contact the metal.

The reverse entry!! Big brain!! I'll do that in the future, lol.

(Though mine are so big; it's a little cramped regardless! Snug fit is probably better all things considered, anyway. Anyway--beautiful case. So... hefty.)
